Public demand does not inherently align with what is needed to protect the environment. It doesn't matter what the public demands if lakes and rivers are already polluted beyond repair and billions of pounds of trash are piled in landfills. Capitalism is good for the environment like laws are good for a country… it kind of depends on what the laws are.
This is not a unpopular opinion, this is just 100%, unequivocally wrong
The wrongness its almost on the same level of "vaccines cause autism"
What 0 readimg does to a mf
No, not in any way. There is absolutely no evidence to support the claim that vaccines cause autism.
There is a mountain of proof that overconsumption, a core element in capitalism, is the leading cause of climate change
Thats exactly what im saying
I want you to line up on a graph two things: The history of the volume of waste products in the environment, and the GDP of the world. Just take one look at that once.
It's very hopeful and naively innocent for you to think what you think, but it's also objectively, empirically, demonstrably, and clearly untrue.
ethical capitalism can do some good for the environment. Unethical rapacious capitalism is destructive to the planet.
Exactly!
But unethical capitalism has the potential to turn into ethical capitalism, while a socialist or communist government would simply do "what's needed" to cut down on costs in favor of production, aka non-eco-friendly stuff.
That is true, good point
Yes but think of all the damage done before we got to here
there's a lot wrong and right in the world. You have a good opinion
People want things to be recycled, and therefore products that won't be recycled are marketed as recyclable. The consumer does the steps necessary, but due to the cost of recycling and the low demand for recycled materials, very few actually end up recycled.
The choice of consumers to do something depends on their outlook on if it benefits them or not. So true, you can't do good by just thinking about doing good. You have to do it
The consumer isn't the one that actually recycles things... The consumer is the one that puts it in the blue bins or whatever in order for their municipality to recycle it. And because there is little demand for the end product after being recycled, these programs usually just throw the recyclable material away in landfills and the like.
that's a funny joke you made.
world record levels of mental acrobatics in this one
world record levels of time on my hands that I don't have :D
Except for all those pesky externalities
I don't really agree but it's still better than communism.
I'm a West Virginian and I'll say that capitalism (the coal industry) has absolutely not been good for our environment.
Yeah but there's also demand for petroleum, coal and plastic. The system is focused on growth and production of any product there is a market for. Environmentally friendly or no.
Capitalism doesn't mean the environment is screwed. But let's not pretend it's good for the planet.
Yeah that's not really how the real works though. Your plastic straw thing is virtue signaling at best. It's a drop in the bucket, and a tiny one at that. It's an easy change that makes big companies look like they are. Nobody is actually tackling the real issues.
With how popular companies like Amazon, Shein, basically any big company that is well known to not be good for the environment are, i wouldn't say people are buying based on the environment....
Hope you evolve someday my guy.
Capitalism has been terrible for the environment, but don't ignore the damage done by the Soviets and Communist China, either.
ur just wrong sorry bro
So what are companies supposed to do waiting 20 years for their planted trees to be viable?
