I think the moment you add logic, reason, accountability to comics, the 'matrix' of that comic falls apart entirely.

Its definitely harder to write well and you're not wrong about the problems it causes. I don't think it makes them terrible though. Some of the greatest comic storylines ever are large crossover events.

So read comics by publishers that aren't Marvel or DC. Like Image or Dark Horse. Even Marvel and DC have some standalone series like Punisher Max or 90% of what DC published under their Vertigo imprint >x-men shouldn't be in the same universe as the avengers. Learning that Metropolis is a ferry ride away from Gotham makes every story involving the joker committing mass murder seem silly Why?
