Easy way to spot them is through their spelling, such as spelling "they're" as "there".

I've heard scammers actually leave those mistakes in emails and such on purpose to make sure they only catch the people stupid enough to actually fall for the whole process. Otherwise they end up wasting time on people who are dumb enough to call back but at least smart enough to realize what's going on halfway through.
