sweatpants should not be seen as lazy or less professional than regular pants, amirite?
by Anonymous2 years ago
The reasoning you're looking for isn't going to be logical, it's conventional. Sweatpants project a level of comfort and leisure that many people consider insufficient for a professional setting, that's it. Taking the time to dress well, do your hair, makeup, shave, general grooming simply projects an image of "I care about how I look and I want to look good for others" which is desirable at this point in time in our society, and there's no such thing as this belief being right or wrong, it's simply conventional. In the future if younger generations embrace sweatpants then maybe they'll be accepted, just like the opposite happened when hats went out of fashion. No one raises an eyebrow if a man doesn't wear a hat anymore, in fact, it'll probably be a little weird, but really, it's all the same, isn't it?

Agreed and we need to move on, ppl should be judged by their personality only.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Chinos shouldn't be baggy.
by Anonymous2 years ago
But in most work places no one cares if they are , you might be secretly judged for it, but your boss wont scold you.

Whether you wanna believe it or not, sweatpants make you look like someone that doesn't care about their appearance. Sweatpants are typically baggy and don't look presentable. They're meant for working out or relaxing. Joggers are different, they're basically sweatpants but are tighter and could pass as a pair of jeans, especially if they're black

i don't care about my appearance. i go for loose and black clothes
by Anonymous2 years ago
Whether or not sweatpants look professional/aesthetically pleasing is entirely arbitrary and based on cultural norms. So yeah, it's dumb. Collectively we could agree to all wear sweatpants and they'd suddenly be in and totally acceptable professional speaking.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Agreed. Regular pants cover you and sweatpants do too.

I have an office job and a lot of my colleagues wear sweatpants. I do quite often too. And nobody cares, nor is seen as unprofessional
by Anonymous2 years ago
Lucky, every working place is different and over here 90% of jobs require said standards
by Anonymous2 years ago
Sweatpants are baggy and comfy and ik they are worn in some schools and workplaces but they come off as unprofessional they are like expensive pajamas I sleep and workout in them def not made for an office job. Not hating or anything I love comfy clothes just part of life but som jeans
by Anonymous2 years ago
I have been wearing sweatpants for years, really good crossing over from jeans.
I maybe wear jeans handful of times per year.
I know social stigma around wearing those everywhere, but i never really cared about it anyways. I wear clothes for my own convince and as protection from the elements rather than to look good for completely random strangers i never meet again.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Agreed to some extent, as i elaborated in my example, my boss would literally send me home if i wore sweatpants or joggers
by Anonymous2 years ago
Probably depends on what job. I've had multiple jobs where suit pants are a requirement. Obviously they provided those.
by Anonymous2 years ago
You try going to a office job application dressed in joggers. Its all about putting in the time to look good and clean. As you said sweatpants they no time to put on which means your not putting in enough time to look presentable. Wearing dress pants and dress shoes shows that you take a lot more care of the way you look. Obviously more specific times like a wedding, job interview etc etc
by Anonymous2 years ago
"As you said sweatpants they no time to put on which means your not putting in enough time to look presentable."
thats the opposite of what i said.
Sweatpants = 3 seconds
jeans = 15 seconds
there is practically no difference. Dress pants alright, but if you wear dress pants you will be looked at as extra put together. Depending on the job you might even look odd. Jeans normally go pretty much everywhere, even if they arent fitting well, meanwhile joggers with a good fit are frowned upon.
Wedding, job interview is a whole different story. In my opinion coming to a job interview in a suit should also not be a thing in the future. Whats even the point? It just proves you can follow a rule that is there for its own sake with no actual purpose. I can do my job just as well in a bikini. A bikini looks off-putting though, I dont want to see someones (half)naked body, sweatpants on the other hand cover your skin and thats it.
by Anonymous2 years ago
That totally depends on what kind of jobs you're applying for.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Elaborate please
by Anonymous2 years ago
It's what people use sweat pants for that makes you look down on them. They are usually your "comfy at home pants", or a base layer under winter or work clothes. I love my sweat pants because they are warm and loose enough to put under coveralls or work pants without restricting movement. However I don't wear them out somewhere just like I wouldn't wear pajamas out
by Anonymous2 years ago
i wear them everywhere i go
by Anonymous2 years ago
There are sweatpants that look like pants and I was wearing them before COVID. Public Rec is an online seller that has them but there are others.
by Anonymous2 years ago
OP do you shave or groom your beard when you go to work?
by Anonymous2 years ago
100% otherwise I will be scolded and send home
by Anonymous2 years ago
but do you, as a person, care about that? Or are you just on a reward/punishment mindset
by Anonymous2 years ago
I dont care about it, just wanna keep my job to not starve to death
by Anonymous2 years ago
Fair enough, you only care about the essentials. Had you drawn the line somewhere on what to care about I would've called you out but hey I respect the coherence!
by Anonymous2 years ago
i find that sweatpants often make my bulgie wulgie distastefully visible
by Anonymous2 years ago
I mean it's fine you do you but you look like a sloppy mess and don't garner any "hey that guy looks good" if your fine with that then do it I wear jeans inside and dress like I'm going out some think it's weird I like being well put together even if I'm relaxing
Also ps
COMFORT ISNT FASHION
If you wanna look good throw the comfort out the window nobody that dresses well is comfortable it's to look good and stylish you can not be comfy for a few hours it won't kill you
by Anonymous2 years ago
And my opinion is, that fashion over practicality sucks. I have never dressed fashionable and idgaf what others think. I dress what i want and aim my outfit to fit the weather outside.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Well yeah dress for occasion I'm just saying I'd you do need to impress people women potential jobs ect my point stands but yeah you do u bub
by Anonymous2 years ago
I got a gf who likes that i dont look like someone who is full of himself lol. At my job i do wear jeans and sweaters, obviously. As i said, i think I shouldnt have to since it doesnt change anything about my performance. I understand that businesses want to look good to clients but thats a societal concept we dont need. Its arbitrary really
by Anonymous2 years ago
Only thing i hate with sweapants is it can go south bcs if youre a male you might randomly getting sudden rush of bloodpressure down there and show everyone youre definetly a dude with a hose in the most awkward way
by Anonymous2 years ago
It's not that this is not an unpopular opinion but, rather, it is an opinion that I did not know existed at all. Sweats are comfortable. I couldn't care less what people think on this. Why should I not be comfortable?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Thinking more of workplace/dress code standards, in public idc
by Anonymous2 years ago
So was I. I'll wear sweats in public. Didn't know it was frowned upon though.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Naw im with you. Heck I can't even wear jeans to work much less sweatpants. Want to know the kicker to that. Your junk is more apparent in dress pants manking me feel like it is less profesional. Seriousely it makes me self conciouse at work and I wish I could just at least wear jeans.
