+164 Interstellar has bare bones weak world building, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nolan kind of sucks at world building and Interstellar leaves a lot to be desired, which could be good or bad depending on the viewer's imagination. Some might see that as "bare bones weak" but others might see that as an opportunity to fill in the gaps themselves. For the purpose of the story there wasn't much of a use for a broader world or explanation for everything being the way it was. But yeah, maybe given more installments or a novelization we could have explored more.

I'm stuck at your solid science. I can juuust almost get it. But I lose that last little bit and can not understand the time is relative concept. Pulls my head out of the movie every time.

I had to watch the movie 3 times before I actually understood the whole 4th dimension thing.

This movie is more than just a story with characters. This movie is a sfx spectacle when it came out and I'm still awed by it. With Hans Zimmer composing as well, this movie really is something different for me.

>The science is solid Not exactly. Those solid clouds floating around on that one planet Matt Damon was stuck on would not just be floating around unless there was a heavy gas layer below them which also could hold them up. Other than that, I feel like the stupid "love is a real thing in the universe" part was really stupid. C'mon man.

It has better world building than a lot of sci-fi I've read/seen. They didn't skew too far from what we know as reality, which is why they didn't need to put a ton of work into the world building. It's not a fantasy story where the entire landscape changes. It's our world, but dying.

I went in to that movie because of all the buzz about "this uses SOLID SCIENCE!". That went out the window in the first few minutes, when the instigating problem being every crop on the planet dying except corn. Yeah, so much for solid science.
