The invention of lightbulbs was such a great idea that it became the symbol of ideas. amirite?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Before the lightbulb, whenever someone got an idea, a candle appeared above their heads

And before that, a campfire would

The last time that happened to me, my hair burned off. Would not recommend

And before that, only flame would.

At what point was it sliced bread?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Before the invention of sliced bread, you had to put PB & jelly between two full loaves of bread and eat it like that
by Anonymous2 years ago
Id love to see that

Before that only a lightning bolt.

And before that, people only got ideas at midday

Got your Caveman sitting around, Grok is rubbing sticks over his head while Urk knocks flintstones against a sturdy brow. Eventually, one of them will get a bright idea. Technology, Science... all because of them.

Imaging scalding wax dripping on your head every time you tried to be creative. Times were tough back then.

Sounds like the scene at Pentecost (flames came to rest on the heads of the disciples).

Hard to overstate the importance of electric lighting. From what I understand, that was the driving force behind early electrification.

> that was the driving force behind early electrification.
Actually the first driving for electricity was from power transmission. As in transferring motive power from a distant source, like a water fall, to a remote factory. This revolutionized factory building. Since you no longer had to build your factory next to a water fall or similar source.

Thomas Edison tried 2000 times to make a lightbulb. He failed. When queried, he respondec, "I didn't fail to make a lightbulb, I just found 2000 ways not to make a lightbulb." After that, he stole the design from Nikola Tesla and marketed the design as his own.
by Anonymous2 years ago
He didn't even make the first lightbulb, other inventors had working versions before him
by Anonymous2 years ago
I'm aware. I am saying Edison is noy nearly as smart as everyone thinks. Most of old Eddy's "inventions" he stole from Tesla.

Thomas Edison really was one of those savants back in the day. We owe a lot of our daily comforts to that man. I wish he was my dad.

Brought to you by Germany. Your welcome guys. No need to thank us.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Who do we need to thank? I've seen a whole load of Brits and the odd American involved with the history of the lightbulb, but not much from the Germans.

In Germany, such a moment is referred to as a "Geistesblitz", which roughly translates to "lighting of the spirit".

Mind flash probably rolls of your tongue a wee bit better. Although I'm still not sure what either of you two want to tell us regarding the light bulb symbol.
