+164 The Kings Guard is a tourist attraction and if they were real soldiers carrying out a real mission they wouldn't wear silly hats and carry swords. amirite?

If you believe this, you should hop on over there and test them.

*gets trampled for being in the way of their patrol route*

You do realize that every country in the world has dress soldiers and I'm willing to bet that if there was conflict they'd shed the useless stuff and grab whatever they needed to protect the public

I'm excited to tell the RCMP they aren't real law enforcement because I think their hats on their red dress uniforms are silly. OP's take is wild.

every military outfit has its share of pomp, circumstance, and tradition. of course the king's guard isn't going to be dropped behind enemy lines with a bright red coat and a big fluffy hat. but those dudes are probably trained to handle that situation if properly equipped.

They are real soldiers tho. Real soldiers used as a prop for tourists, but underneath all that silliness they're still actual soldiers.

And it's not just random soldiers either. It's a very prestigious position and so they get to choose the best candidates. The beefeaters at the tower of London are the same. They seem like just guides but they're all soldiers with decades of experience

"I dropped my rifle in the latrine again, sir!" "oh, private floppo. you'll never make the king's gate at this rate!"

OP doesn't know how any military works lmao. This is so dumb.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I'm not messing with them...

by Anonymous 2 years ago

They are active duty soldiers performing a ceremonial function. OP is just jelly they can't play with swords anymore.

I completely agree with the idea that the Kings Guard is maintained for its historical and traditional values rather than being a pragmatic military force. However, it's important to remember that behind their ceremonial uniforms, these guards are still active soldiers trained for various situations.

I wonder if this guy thinks the Marines standing guard outside the white house are just for show as well.

"Make woiy for the Kings Guards!" *tramples child*
