Most people see education a tool to get a job but it is as so much more than that. amirite?

I agree that education is more than just a tool to get a job, although it certainly does come with job prospects. But I also think that there are many other benefits of higher education, such as developing critical thinking skills, learning how to work collaboratively with others, and having access to resources and mentors that can help you succeed. Education also opens up the opportunity to network and make valuable connections, which can be invaluable in today's world.

None of the things you listed are worth being in a lifetime of debt because you cannot pay off your student loan. If you worked your way through college and took on no debt then you could major in basket weaving and there wouldn't be this huge albatross hanging over you.

I agree with this. I definitely agree with OP that getting a degree can make you a little more well-rounded but so can plenty of other things- travel, work experience, making it through harsh circumstances (losing someone you love, dealing with poverty, etc). Those are all things I have experience with and they've shaped me far more than my law degree. I definitely think degrees are necessary for some people (I never could have been a lawyer without one). But I am baffled when I see kids taking on 80K in debt with an ‘undecided degree'. That debt is insane to pay off in the future.

If you want the "college experience" go to a 2 year community college. If you're spending the time and money on a 4 year degree you better be getting valuable skills at the end.

As much that learning things can improve your experience or you as a person, life demands that you do something profitable.
You don't know if classes in higher education are actually benefiting you or trying to use you as a vehicle for their money.
As an individual all you can do is take what benefit you can from what you encounter.

I think one of the most valuable things about a higher education is that it teaches you how to learn. Even when your degree doesn't prepare you for certain tasks, having the ability to research and figure them out is invaluable. It's also important to appreciate the experiences and personal growth that come with higher education, as those can be just as influential in our lives as job prospects.
