I eat organic free range chicken and locally raised beef and I'll be honest, I have never noticed a big difference in the taste.

I don't remember them tasting like that growing up, once you peeled past the fat & skin the meat was tolerable but definitely not something I'd pay a premium price for

Then don't come to Europe. We don't have chlorine chicken, they are illegal.
Chemicals need to be proven harmless before they can be used in the EU. Therefore you will probably hate all our food.

Hard to prove a negative

Well, you can test everything by giving it to a broad audience and look what happens, or you can carefully do trials with animals, then in small groups of people, and larger groups of people until you are quite sure it is s ok.
The word "Proven" is not 100% accurate here.

"meat bird" kinda sounds like you weren't given chicken. Assuming you were, the gamey-ness could be from something specific to that farm and not all non-gmo)free range chickens.

Uh idk about your chicken situation but you can stuff me full of GMO's

consider yourself double-stuffed, like an oreo

Wow, can't relate to this sentiment.

Until last night, neither could I.
by Anonymous2 years ago
honestly, i think the reason you liked it is because it was brined in salt. next time you cook chicken, brine it and skip the chlorine
by Anonymous2 years ago
the brine probably makes a huge difference!

You did not receive a chicken, at least not a fresh one. I have had chicken at dinner that was alive that morning, the difference is night and day. Nothing gamey. Sounds like it wasn't properly refrigerated. Grass fed and grain fed beef is also easily noticeable. Grass fed is miles better. I think big preservative, big salt, and big sugar have ruined your taste buds. That's why you say acquired.
I have had people over, and they always ask why the meat (steak) is so good with so little meddling. Grass fed is why.

It was most definitely a chicken, it had been frozen & wasn't same-day fresh. The gameness was specifically in the fat and skin, once past that the meat was ok but at that point, no one wanted it...no way would I pay a premium price for that.
I would never purposely seek out grass-fed beef, grain-finished is definitely our preference.

You bought a freezer burned chicken. Explains everything.
by Anonymous2 years ago
I guess it could be possible, but freezer burnt has a specific smell, which this bird did not haveā¦it smelled like a normal chicken.
by Anonymous2 years ago
GMO and chemicals are better. Not because of the taste, but because they are harmless and cheaper.

Life tastes better at KFC

I do love that chicken at Popeyes

You will get a lot more variability with free range or free run meat, depending on their diet and exercise so the gaminess and texture might be quite different from another farm

The funniest thing I get from this sentiment has to be how brainwashed we are by the 'non-gmo/chemical free' movements, EVERYTHING is made of chemicals that's how nature works, also the 'it's natural so it's good for you' idiocy doesn't make it much better. Sadly this isn't a popular opinion though, thanks to those movements.

We always tell people that cyanide is naturally occurring, yet it will kill you - always garners the strangest looks from the anti-gmo/natural is better peeps!
