Time zones are dumb and all countries should have the same time, amirite?
by Anonymous2 years ago
We already use a global time from a tech perspective (for the most part). Times/dates should be stored in UTC (not all cases, tho, but you get the point).
I work with a distributed team. I meet with people in Europe, India and all over the Americas all the time. Timezones are not that much of a problem. Outlook or other mail/calendar systems sort that out automatically, and everyone learns to specify the time zone pretty quickly (like, in their _first_ meeting)
The real problem is what people do at the time of the meeting. You set up a call at a certain time, but turns out the west coast is having lunch at that time, or the team in europe is sleeping, or whatever. Having a universal time zone is not going to help fix that.

Well the rest of the planet should synchronize their entire lives with OP too, duhh.

it kind of helps to know that, regardless of where someone is in the world, that 8am is "morning", 12pm is "lunch time", and 11pm is "night time, when people are usually asleep".
it prevents you from having to look up a table to figure out what stage of the day someone else is in based off what time of the day it is over there.

Why you can't do simple math?

Man is your head gonna explode when you find out what the Brits did during WW2.
This makes sense from a logical perspective, but it is much easier for humans to have a frame of reference when tracking time (the sun). Imagine you travel to another country and you plan to wake up at sunrise, you would have to learn that countries sunrise time before hand. And you would have to do this anywhere you go which would get pretty annoying.

I'm sure the people who would have their "day" occur in the middle of the night would be pleased. Elementary schools would particularly love the idea.
