+149 There's nothing wrong with accessibility features in games, especially long running franchises, amirite?

They don't REALLY hate those. They just pretend to hate them in order to appear smarter.

The problem begins when some are using them as an edge, as opposed to a necessity. Aim assist online in rainbow six? Nah, don't think so. If a colourblind setting could be toggled, I have no problem with that. Single player games, put in whatever accessibility options can be added.

Then why not have them turned off automatically at a certain rank? But in any case, I genuinely think these features could work in an online setting, but a pro will likely never use them

I was agreeing with you. I was only saying that they're are cases where it would be abused by those who don't need it to gain an unfair advantage. About shutting it off at a certain rank? There's already enough of a smurfing problem in competitive multiplayer games.

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about the smurfing issue... I wish there was a way to deal with it but there isn't

I really don't think most people care about those types accessibility features. I think most people are upset with developers sacrificing and removing complexity/difficulty in order to make games more accessible. Guilty Gear Strive and SFV are the best examples of this where most people didn't dislike strive because it had a dash macro or input buffer they disliked it because they took away a lot of the moves and unique execution requirements for most of the characters.

People have issues with accessibility features?

\*looks around\* Mention souls games and difficulty settings.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It genuinely wouldn't work

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I wouldn't know, but it works in just about every other game, so I honestly don't see why not (as a caveat, I have no interest in the souls games, it is just one I see brought up when things like this are mentioned).

You have to balance a game around every difficulty setting you have. Elden ring only has one setting so the entire game could be created around that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's the same reason most jrpgs don't have difficulty options, the game can't be too hard, you can always level up. You basically decide your difficulty, adding different options does trivialize the game

Apparently, yeah.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

so long as they can be turned off if not needed rather than baked in the game itself

by Anonymous 1 year ago

As someone who plays a lot of fighting games those all sound like good ideas to me. I don't see why anyone would be against optional accessability settings
