Most groomed dogs look ugly as hell. amirite?

If we don't cut our dogs hair; it will cover her eyes, her butt and get in everything. It's not just for looks, but for the overall health of the dog. I don't disagree though, definitely find it ugly.

Our dog chews his ear fur if it gets too long and in the summer it gets hot here so it's likely better for him to keep his fur short

I'm a dog groomer, and most doodles are short because owners realize they didn't do any research and can't keep up with the hair. It ends up getting matted everywhere, and then they have to be shaved

My Cavi gets a "puppy cut" and looks adorable.
It's also done for practical purposes. I tried keeping his fur long and I took excellent care of it, however, he's a service dog. This means his long coat picked up city debris whenever we went out: dirt, popcorn, sticks, weird street debris, grass cuttings, leaves, etc. His fur needed to be untangled every night and he needed lots of baths.
So, puppy cut. He's cleaner, he can work comfortably, fewer baths (better for skin/coat), and he's still cute.

I agree. They look better natural. Why ruin them?

Yep. My dog looks pretty bad right now. The problem is if we don't keep it short, he gets sticks and burs in his hair.

My dog hair (non shedding poodle mix) mats and covers his eyes if we don't groom him.
