The negative side of independent anything is that most creators in the space are not particularly original. They see what someone else has done that was successful and replicate it, hoping for success of their own. This is not necessarily bad on its own as there were a lot of great game concepts from the Atari, NES, and SNES generations that are perfect to draw inspiration from; but it becomes a problem when everyone is chasing the current trend, and often failing to understand why it was successful.

Exactly. Most indie games are just cash grabs meant for you to just keep in your steam library for the next 3 years until pyrocynical makes a video about it.

I feel like we're going backward to the earliest days of gaming, and not in a good way. Back then, anything went. Anyone could pump out any game with barely any rhyme or reason, and often little to no quality control. With the massive rise of indie games, quality control is falling back to what it used to be.

Not really. There's plenty of good indie games. But it's indie, so many people have the ability to create games and release them. which floods the genre with stardew valley clones which is a harvest moon clone.

Man,do you understand how much indie games are made each DAY? Thats like saying i hate the music now, its all pop. Last year was the best year for indie games, personally : fear and hunger termina, citizen sleeper, teenage exocolonist, pentiment, dwarf fortress, roadwarden, iron lung, neesy girl overdose , signalis, and much more i have yet to play. Sont reject concept of publishing a game just becouse some of them are not for you
