Was trolley always sentient/sapient? It's been decades since I've seen Mr Roger's anything, and Eben then, I used to only watch the first part, didn't really care for the puppet show. .

Within the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, yes. Back in the house set, however, Mr. Rogers made a point of showing the toggle switches on the wall he used to make Trolley move forwards and backwards.
