+155 Our society where „everybody is great the way they are" and „everyone should do what they feel like doing" is counterproductive in the long run, amirite?

People won't change because you tell'em what to do, they'll refuse to change even more that way. One can only change if that's what they want for themselves. When you break out of your comfort zone it means it's not confortable anymore.

For better or worse people can certainly be changed by external pressure.

depends on how much you value this external pressure

Telling people to change and get out of their misery? Oh, no, that won't do. You are special and so is your condition. It is far better to stay the way you are than to change.

Push people to accomplish things and to be the best versions of themselves, sure, but I think part of "accepting yourself" just means that even at your worst, you don't have to *hate* yourself for your flaws, because no good comes from that. That just makes people give up.

This shows your lack of understanding about the complex nature of depression and other mental illnesses. People don't become depressed because they don't do things, they don't do things because of depression. There's also concepts like executive functioning, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, autism, etc to can cooccur with depression. Those all can have an impact on someone's ability to cope with depression symptoms. There's plenty more but it's not my job to explain basic abnormal psychology. Read a book.

Everyone now a days is a precious little snowflake. God forbid you point out peoples mistakes. Everyone was a bs excuse for their failures.
