It's in the list of generic indie shovelware.
Others include survival and base building game (usually with zombies), 2D platformer (bonus points if it's very pixelated), telltale games, "it's art, not just a game"

Yeah you hit the nail on the head with all those games. I mostly play on PC but I also have several consoles and its all the same deal. When I picked up my switch the other day those pixelated 2D platformers were literally every other game.

Suck my filter.
But yes its gotten stale at this point. Especially those that don't even feel like a ps1 game. At least there are less asset-flipped garbage than usual.

Nostalgiac horror is in right now, with the rise of analogy horror and found footage on YouTube and other platforms. It's just a wave that'll probably fade and be replaced in a few years.
