People grouping culture by decade (i.e. "the 80s", "the 90s", "the 2000s") doesn't really make sense because the culture of 1990 was nothing like 1999, and same for 2000 vs 2009. 3-6 year eras makes more sense. amirite?

It's just generalization. Every time period you pick is going to have the same problems. You call today the tiktok era, but the majority of people in the world don't have tiktok. Pre-pandemic 2017 is pretty different from today.
