yeah rom coms have alot of this stuff that wouldn't work in real life, because rom coms are not real life i don't really like the genre anyway other than some key movies, but rom coms are not supposed to be realistic. they are just supposed to be idealized stories of romance.

I think most movies from the '80s and '90s seem a bit horrifying now.

Agreed, times have changed. I only watched When Harry Met Sally a few weeks ago and Sally's friend continuously dating married men irked me.
