+159 AI and Deepfake technology will eventually make photo/video proof impossible. amirite?

Methods to detect deepfakes will advance right along with deep fakes. I do agree that in 10-15 years, AI is going to have changed our lives more than we currently realize. If AI is the internet, then it's basically 1999 right now.

Pretty sure we'll just use AI to detect AI. In the end, AI will be more disappointing than we hope and be overshadowed by the next great thing.

I imagine you could have an image or video digitally signed by the camera that produces it. Then it's a matter whether you trust the camera or not.

Not true. "Proof" is never a single thing. "Proof" is a totality of many pieces of evidence. Just because something can be faked does not mean that all instances of it can never be trusted again.

This is where AI is going to lead to the end of humanity. It's not in the way we think. It will end up deceiving the wrong people at the wrong time into thinking that they are being attacked, and will result in the pressing of the button and sending of nuclear weapons. The AI will cause it through deception rather than control.

You sound like my grandpa when he got his first iPhone in 2018

Because every tech advancement means nuclear war and the end of the world right? And because the big red button is being handled by complete doofuses who have no clue whatsoever about the AI and what is happening in the world right? If anything, the deception by AI can possibly lead to a point where people are even more careful about what they believe which could make misinformation even more hard to spread. Humans are capable of evolving you know. That is why we are here.
