covers are an old tradition in music and performing. if an album has 13 songs on it who cares if one of them is a cover? "you couldn't come up with ~13 original songs?" well they came up with ~13-1 original songs, didn't they?

My take is that I have no problem with covers, but they will never be better than the original song.

"All Along the Watchtower." "Hurt". "Respect". "I Will Always Love You". "Twist and Shout". "I Fought the Law". "Nothing Compares 2 U". "Hallelujah". "The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)". "The Man Who Sold the World". "Tainted Love". "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". "It's My Life". "I Love Rock & Roll". "Hound Dog". Every single one of these is more famous for the cover version than the original, due to the cover being that much better.

Hurt by Johnny cash is definitely considered to be better than the original from nine inch nails, even Trent Reznor himself agrees with that. But you're right most of the time

I love a good cover. I enjoy hearing how my favorite band recreates a song I already know and like, to see how they make it their own. I think a cover is a great way to end an album, whether as a listed song or a "hidden" one.
