+128 The idea that not putting away your shopping cart is somehow a reflection of your character was pushed by big grocery. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Trying to justify avoiding basic human decency. Classic

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Anyone who doesn't put their grocery cart away needs to be enslaved especially if they leave it on a parking spot

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well you get your two annual exceptions for bad days and family emergencies

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's definitely a reflection of your character.

We live in a society.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP is definitely the type of person to not put their shopping cart away

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I agree. Good manners is a corporate conspiracy.

The issue here is the time the cart spends hanging out in a parking space instead of being in the cart corral. If there were attendants patrolling 100% to make sure a cart is never left hanging, then I could see myself seeing your point. But that's not the comparison here since attendants have never done that, they just come out and clean them up periodically. Given that system, carts will spend some time in a parking space. That time is what makes it unethical to leave it.

I mean, if carts aren't put away I often see them left in parking spots and stuff, which doesn't seem like something that should be happening. It's also just common decency to do it to make everyone's life easier.

It's good to remove unnecessary jobs.

So many people make this about helping employees, I see it differently, I replace my cart so that 1. It doesn't roll into somebody's car and 2. So that it doesn't prevent someone from parking in a spot (with emphasis on number 1 given the number of times I have seen the wind push a cart 20 feet).

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe the pushed it. But that doesn't make it less true

by Anonymous 1 year ago

For the record, I put my cart away every time but this is definitely an unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Uh huh. Sure. We believe you.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nah. Just some people who desperately want to show they are better than others.

Think about it from the consumer pov. If people dont put their carts away then lots of carts are left all over the parking lot slowing down employees. This means that when looking for a park you'll have to contend with all the trolleys in your way, and when you do get inside there'll be way less trolleys for you to use.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It takes the same number of people to gather carts regardless of how many people use the corral. You're just making some underpaid employee's job harder.

The stores that encourage people to put cats away like Aldi (quarter in the cart) tend to be significantly cheaper than the competition.

Sebastion has entered the chat.

This is like saying it's OK to litter on the streets, or even in indoor public spaces because it will create more jobs for janitors/cleaners

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You're overthinking this.

I used to work at Safeway and going to get the carts took a total of 10 minutes out of my 8 hour day. I actually enjoyed it and would milk that time to get a break from being in the store
