It just shows how rare superstar talent is. Winning a show isn't gonna make you a lasting star. You got to be able to write and produce to make it.

What? No he wasn't how you figure that? Sadly people slick forget about Jennifer Hudson she's just as big as Kelly Clarkson. Clay Aiken? Think he was winner or runner up to Rubben too. Kelly Clarkson is only still talked about because just like Charles Barkley she's on T.V 24/7 you see her all the time that's it.

Every American Idol winner other than Kelly Clarkson and Carried Underwood has been a bust. There are some nonwinners with notable careers, but not that many. Jeniffer Hudson is an undeniably fantastic singer, but her career hasn't stood out that much outside of dreamgirls. Chris Daughtry had a couple big singles. Other than that, I can't think of another American Idol contestant that's noteworthy.

Yeah, it's definitely on me. I never said it was on her, just that I had never heard of her. But it's definitely on me, I can't consume everything the media has to offer, it's just impossible. So we decide to consume some things and ignore others.

I don't think I have watched that show I'm a decade (or longer) but I think self promotion has probably altered their talent pool. If you're a good musician today, I think it is probably a better idea to focus on releasing music on YouTube than trying to win a record contract on a reality TV show.

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion lol. I just looked through notable american idol contestants, and I think Adam Lambert is the most recent contestant I could identify, and he was in season 8, which was in 2009. Looking at a list of winners, I recognize the names from season 1-6, and that's about it. Honestly, the only contestant that I think are that noteworthy at all are Kelly Clarkson, Jeniffer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, and Chris Daughtry.
