+125 Hiking is stupid and a waste of time. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Ok you hate the small minority of people that make it their entire personality and think they are better than everyone else, that's fair. But why is hiking stupid and a waste of time?

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Oh this is easy. It makes OP feel better than other people.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

*"I can see that it could have health benefits"* So then it's not stupid or a waste of time.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

What a bizarre opinion. Like i don't really care much for hiking myself but I don't have some grudge against those who do enjoy it.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Even more bizarre if OP applauds sharing the road with bicyclists.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I'm not really sure what you're saying here...that people are stupid for exercising instead of being a couch potato like you? lol

by Anonymous 11 months ago

It's better than sitting inside all day. But there's a minority that make too much out of it, like any hobby. Most people just do it casually and it's no big deal. Just like to go outside

Why is hiking a stupid waste of time but GTA isn't despite having none of the health benefits?

by Anonymous 11 months ago

If you are enjoying yourself and getting exercise at the same time, it isn't a waste of time.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I mean you get outdoors, enjoy the weather and spend time in nature. I personally hike from time to time and the actual act of the walking/hiking is just a small aspect of the activity that is "hiking". Hiking being "stupid" is objective but I can see where it would be seen as a "waste of time" like most of the things humans choose to do.

> .but you aren't special or part of an exclusive club because you go and walk somewhere. it sounds like YOU are the one who has a misconception about hiking.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Usually when people mean hiking they mean driving to a parking lot and then walking in a desolate copse of trees for twenty minutes then leave.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

...where on earth is this what hiking means? Also, isn't "copse of trees" a little redundant? A copse is a small group of trees, you could just call the copse desolate.

Hiking up their pants on the way back from grabbing a beer from the fridge.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

A good thing about hiking is that it takes me away from anyone who might think hiking is stupid

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Mountains are cool and I like spending time in them. I don't think it's some amazing thing that I can make it up trails, I just enjoy going on hikes.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I do actually love the outdoors. That's why I go. I hate exercising a lot as I have chronic health issues but I still go as I love nature that much.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Hiking allows me time to unwind and de-stress. It allows me to get some exercise and adventure. It allows me to let my mind just wander about as I wander about and to not focus on every day life BS. Hiking for me isn't just "walking like the rest of us". I climb mountains, hike Death Valley and several of the National Parks around Las Vegas....when it's 115\*F+. Lets see you hike for six plus hours like that. Hiking is nothing more than another hobby, form of exercise for many people. It's no different than golfing, bowling, playing any other sport.

If you like to go to wilderness areas, you have no choice but to like hiking. What are you going to do, run or swim up a mountain to get to the area you're trying to get to?

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Why do you think people do it to be special? Hiking gives me space to *not* feel special or unique, it lets me have my peace with me and the trees. This "mass exodus" is just in your head dude, I like hiking better than walking specifically because you're less likely to see people. Its also more intense than walking physically, in a fun way. Climbing rocks is way more interesting than walking on the same old trail.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

By that logic pretty much all hobbies are stupid and a waste of time. Anything that brings you joy, no matter how basic, is not a waste of time.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Yep- those kooky 59,000,000(ish) hikers and their "holier-than-thou" attitudes! Fewer people should hike- especially if they don't know how to pick up their mutt's crap.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Or, depending on where you are, their own crap.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Yes, actually I do consider myself pretty special when I hike. I feel pretty special being about to see things in nature that other people cannot either due to inability or flat out laziness.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Those people are stupid but hiking is just walking in nature

by Anonymous 11 months ago

100% agree hiking is terrible

by Anonymous 11 months ago

>I imagine this mass exodus of people who think it's great they don't have the ability to sit still ..making this weekend migration "hiking" because they love the "outdoors". LMFAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH you're the best :D sadly i can't award you for some reason but consider it done

by Anonymous 11 months ago

If they did it purely to show off somehow then I guess you have a point, but I am sure they know that people are capable of walking (can we all? For miles, up and down mountains?). It is about exploring nature, seeing the big wild world, interesting sights, breathtaking views etc. If you don't like that then just sit at home.
