Dedicated parking spots for electric cars are ridiculously dumb. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's because they have chargers in those spots.

You should be asking "why are businesses offering this?" because the answer to why people are parking there is *because the business is offering it.*

If they near the front of the building then it's probably to reduce the costs of getting electricity to the chargers. Be very costly to run it to the other end of the car park.

It's simply to promote clean energy. It's never been a big deal to me.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Isn't it to promote clean energy? Also, I have never seen it in front of a building. Usually the opposite.
by Anonymous2 years ago
It's is *always* in the front of building where I live.
I'm an electrician that has actually installed them. They do it not only to promote "clean energy" but also because the front of a store/business is closest to the power source. The further you get, the more expensive it gets. Things like voltage drop must also be considered when running a circuit 200+ feet.
TLDR: It's cheaper.

Hmm. Yeah some are in the front. But some places like Buc-ees have it all the way in the back. I wonder why.
by Anonymous2 years ago
I've never seen this at the front of a building. Usually it's the side or back of the parking lot, and the spaces are reserved spaces because *that's where charging stations are.*
by Anonymous2 years ago
As opposed to you, I have never seen a charging spot at the back of the lot. Always right next to the handicapped spots.
by Anonymous2 years ago
I haven't seen them located near the front, rather in the back or around the side of the building

The premium placings are probably more to do with having them in plain sight to keep them from getting trashed as well as promotional reasons.

If you don't like it you can shop somewhere else

I understand this was a rethorical question. But why do my housing prices have to be higher. Becouse grocery stores have mandatory parking lots sizes.
As for the EV. Every pole is a large investment ca €8.000. every meter of cable to the pole is extra costs. Extra risk of it breaking. And extra work keeping track so you never excavate it by accident.
Having done that large investment, only for Asma producering car owner to pick that spot, seems like a waste.
And then again. If 30 x 2 extra foot steps per visit is such a big inconvenience. Then you seem like a person that would complain about anything.
One cent of your yearly taxes was used to buy a homeless family food for a month... Outrageous... That is utterly unacceptable you have to suffer so much...

Agreed. No reserved parking except handicapped spots.

I need two spots for my Ram tho.
by Anonymous2 years ago
This is one way how you convert the masses to adopt. Then every spot will have ev only sign on it
by Anonymous2 years ago
People with electric cars will go for said places and spend money while it charges, the company looks extra "green" and forward thinking, and actually some of it to me seems like it reduces clutter right at the front of the store. I do know of some places though where it is right at the back nearest the road, so it could be as simple as that is the most convenient place to get the electricity supply to.
