Telling someone to use their common sense also doesn't make sense. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
You need to add a hell of a lot more context for your assertion to ring true.
Because if "A" is a hug and "B" is a knife wound, it's pretty widely recognized common sense which is "better".

The classic conundrum of "should I hug or stab them?"

Which is why I never leave the house without strapping on my chest mounted bayonet.

*"When asked "If A or B is better" and a person responds by saying "Use common sense" is a terrible way to reply back and their reply also doesn't make sense."*
There are countless possible examples in which it would be a perfectly reasonable response. Whether or not it is a terrible response and "also doesn't make sense" can only be determined on a case-by-case basis and would be entirely dependent on the specifics of what is being asked. Use some common sense.

People who say that "common sense isn't common" and "no one has common sense" come across as people who are incapable of critical thinking.

Like the critical thinking that men can get pregnant?
by Anonymous1 year ago
How would that work?

or they are people who on some level are aware that not everybody is capable of critical thinking.

"Use your common sense" is dual-speak for "this conversation is tiring, leave me alone". I almost always use this response on the rare occasions when someone is irritating me with small talk that I don't appreciate.
