We should celebrate farmers and water sanitizers as the most important people in society, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
What til you hear about the runoff from farms. Not saying farmers are bad, but they aren't worship-worthy either.

And this is coming from my husband who tests water and comes from a farm family.
by Anonymous1 year ago
That's what waste water technicians are for, too clean that water.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Lol no, runoff from farms goes straight into natural water systems, there is no opportunity to treat that water.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Until the city gets in trouble for pushing too much chlorine through when testing for bacteria, and then lays off the chlorine when testing for chlorine.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I mean do you have first hand experience with a plant doing that because if you do you should kick it up to the feds, they absolutely take chlorine tampering seriously.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah, if you like to eat, farmers are kind of important
by Anonymous1 year ago
No
by Anonymous1 year ago
Don't forget plumbers. Without them we'd all be wading around in sewage and dying of cholera.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yes! My fil run rural water systems, such an important job!!!
by Anonymous1 year ago
"Nah let's give Chris Pratt and Lizzo 100mil for playing the flute and saying lines in Disney's 87th superhero movie"
by Anonymous1 year ago
This is a popular opinion...
by Anonymous1 year ago
Lmao, I literally just read an article about the agrarian myth. Tldr, this is not an unpopular opinion and its rooted in an idealized falsehood.

Teachers and doctors: mkay.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Without abundance of food and water early people's would not have had the time to dedicate to anything but the aforementioned. They'd be too busy hunting and gathering to learn much of anything else.
by Anonymous1 year ago
They are not even close to the people who grow your food and clean your water
by Anonymous1 year ago
You could Technically grow your own food. Or distill your own water. But, methinks you could not give yourself surgery. :) Or teach yourself Logic. ;)
by Anonymous1 year ago
People die without clean water or food with or without doctors. logic.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Hell doctors and teachers die without clean food and water.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You don't need farmers to have food and water.
You do need doctors when you are sick
by Anonymous1 year ago
So what will your doctor do when you're in there for dehydration and malnutrition?
by Anonymous1 year ago
why would you distill your water. Do you have some kind of death wish?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Doctors yes, teachers no.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Doctors aren't born. Someone taught them.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Not sure why yall are so mad at this lol. Not like i said teachers stink or whatever, just sayin they're a tier below doctors, nurses, firemen, farmers, etc
Teachers are still important. But as i told the other guy, just because you arent Jordan/Messi doesnt mean you cant be David Robinson/Beckham (or whoever is a 2nd tier footballer)
by Anonymous1 year ago
Books, mostly.
Most doctors I know have always been pretty self reliant from an educational standpoint.
Teachers are much more essential to teach the masses the basics as opposed to teaching the kids who become doctors. If you need help to learn things you're probably not going to become a doctor.
Teachers are super important for society, but they're not out here creating doctors. That's parenting, genetics/intelligence, and self discipline. There are, of course, exceptions.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Tell me even one doctor out there who has their degree and didn't go to college and get taught by professors
by Anonymous1 year ago
That wasn't my point.
Doctors are getting straight A's. When they have a good teacher, when they have a bad teacher. It doesn't matter. That's because they are able to teach themselves the material. People don't become doctors because they're taught in a certain way, ie teacher's aren't a big factor in making doctors. Give a doctor the required learning, and they'll learn it on their own. No guidance necessary.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Everyone is a teacher.
by Anonymous1 year ago
What country are you from?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Canada
by Anonymous1 year ago
Ok, so it's your own ignorance.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Geez tell me youre a teacher without telling me.
Just because you arent Jordan doesnt mean you cant be a Patrick Ewing or John Stockton. I never said teachers arent important, they just arent on the level of farmers, doctors, nurses, cops, firefighters, etc
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah, I'm not a teacher.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Farmers don't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. It's a business, and one that can be very lucrative. It also can't be done without a massive network of supporting industries - machinery, logistics, biosecurity, lawyers, agricultural supplies (feed, fertiliser, seed), government, software developers, education. Basically - we live in a society and in a society many hands make light work.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Trades people of any kind are looked on with appreciation by normal people. But rich people categorize them as a means to an end. So long as the rich and powerful control everything normal people won't be recognized. The powerful took art and made those who perform it in any way their puppets for fame and money. Hence the wokeness of rich capitalistic actors. Say they hate the exact thing that makes them famous and rich and they do so for the amusement of the ruling class.
Jesters never died out, they morphed.
by Anonymous1 year ago
How did woke even come here
by Anonymous1 year ago
And Miners. If there was nobody to dig it out of the ground and turn it into steel, farmers would have to do their farming with wood tools. Not gonna be feeding a whole lot of people like that...
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'd go as far as health care workers as well. People who work in nursing homes (the ones that truly care about their job) are doing such a thankless for minimal pay. Sometimes, they're the last people you see before you die.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Farmers are also destroying the watersheds and supplies in California and results of deforestation in Brazil
: ^ )
Farmers don't typically do the real work.
Next time you see tell them to thank their workers instead.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Let's not forget teachers, you know, the folks preparing the youth for their future. But I don't think any of this is unpopular
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't agree because we can't agree on the agendas that they teach.
by Anonymous1 year ago
They are important, yes, but without water and food, they'll have none to teach about the Pythagorian theorem.
by Anonymous1 year ago
As someone who works in food production, the vast majority of it is done by machines meaning that the actual labour is unskilled most of the time.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah, just like electricians, plumbers, teachers, nurses, garbage mans, social personnel and...
You know...
**The whole work class**
by Anonymous1 year ago
False, because without food or water they would all be out of jobs.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You know that to make or cleanse food or water energy is required?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Not as much s you think, I've been a certified waste water tech for 5 years, I can clean a 5000gallon pit of water using nothing but naturally occurring chemicals and gravity in about 6 hours
by Anonymous1 year ago
Cleaners and plumbers too.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Also the workers who support the farmers like farriers and vets. I'm hooked on watching Nate the Hoof Guy, he trims cow's hooves and treats any problems they have. It's oddly relaxing but also makes me appreciate all the care that goes into the cows.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't know about Instagram famous, most of them are pretty humble folks but otherwise I completely agree
by Anonymous1 year ago
How do you know who they are if they don't say it/you don't find them at their workplace, it's not like farmers are going around wearing, like, straw hats plaid shirts and overalls all the time
by Anonymous1 year ago
Ok. But without machinist and manufacturing workers they wouldn't have the tools to do their jobs as efficiently as they do these days.
It's less of a pyramid and more of a loop. Worker A helps Worker B helps Worker C helps Worker A and on and on and on. No profession is more important than another. Especially not in skilled professions.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You can still farm and clean water without giant ass machines, it's possible we've been doing it for thousands of years before machinery even had a definition.
by Anonymous1 year ago
No single profession by itself can do much for humanity. Farmers are relatively under appreciated, but they still need a whole transportation system to get their goods to the consumers. Doctors are good, but they are not as effective without their medical equipment. Construction crews can't do their jobs without lumber and tools, etc….
This thing where people try to find the single most important job is nonsensical because everyone is dependent on someone else.
by Anonymous1 year ago
you shouldn't respect people because of their profession or title, it has nothing to do with who they are as people
by Anonymous1 year ago
So here's the thing we'd be dead without a vast number of jobs
Roughly 3% of global GDP goes to dealing with rust by itself
There is only one set of jobs that really makes things better for everyone above What other jobs normally do
That's the stem jobs scientists and engineers and their adjacent jobs are the only ones that actually improve things everyone else is just using their work to make themselves look good essentially (almost the entire population had to be farmers before then science happened now we need like one or two percent it's not that the farmers got better it's that the scientists engineers made it better)
by Anonymous1 year ago
Is farming the oldest profession vs prostitution?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Soldiering, that's one of the first occupations, too. Someone to protect the farmers, prostitutes, lawyers, priests, and kings. Blah
by Anonymous1 year ago
That's not unpopular
by Anonymous1 year ago
BOOOOOOORRRRRINGGG. Celebrities make entertainment. It's entertaining. Good for your farmers and water people, but it's not exciting.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Entertainers wouldn't have anyone to entertain without food and water.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Hard agree. Non-white collar jobs are Uber applauded
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yup and PPL tend to Attack Farmers, my Grandma Loved His Animals. It makes me so bitter when PPL hate on farmes.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah but also doctors engineers and so on. Cause no farmer could grow as much as they do nowdays without engineers. Yeah we should guve them the payment Sportstars receive and they should get what the doctor gets usually.
