Dr. Dre grew up in Compton and his brother was literally murdered

by Anonymous 11 months ago

He was a fake gangster that use to wear makeup and make rnb tunes. He sold out for a check.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Literally? Or just figuratively

by Anonymous 10 months ago

As in that wasn't just a dramatic scene for the movie, his brother really did get murdered

none of what you said is true

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Yes it is. Rap music is trash and only promotes destruction. Don't waste your time telling me Rappers that are "good" bc they are the minority.

Africa boombata and like Sugarhill gang that was like a different kind of dancing Roller Rink style of music. I just often think to myself damn if they didn't want to monetize that would it even exist

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yes and no. Like a lot of cultures that became mainstream or at least large, it did start as something genuine but got picked and comercialized by big companies

So it caught on not because it appealed to poor black kids, but because they were manipulated by the evil rich capitalist? It forced them to glorify the violence around them? Rich people are responsible for them killing each other?

I despise rap and hiphop, but I can't blame record executives. They feed the public exactly what the public wants

by Anonymous 10 months ago

>I despise rap and hiphop why

by Anonymous 10 months ago

It's awful. Unlistenable.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

What makes it awful?

Butting in here, but FWIW, I saw an old clip of a TV show (Ed Sullivan) where the musical guest was the very popular at the time, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers singing "Why do Fools Fall in Love". The audience was practically hysterical in it's anticipation, barely able to stay in their seats. Then the band came out. The audience suddenly quieted and listened to the song with a polite caution. The expression on their faces denoted surprise. To quote from another song, "Some people won't dance if they don't know who's singing." Seeing as all western music follows the same basic structure and chord progressions going back even before classical, it's probably not the music, but the culture surrounding it some find distasteful.

Lol get a load of this guy

Just wait until you hear the people who finance the US prison system also finance gangster rap and heavy metal. These people know how to extract money from people.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

There's no doubt art there and to be honest I shouldn't even say hip hop I should have said more like the grimy gangster rap b******* but to me the whole thing was created by some guy in an office wasn't part of the culture originally so therefore who really owns the culture... You may have Kanye and Jay Z but they are like a 0 0 0 0 0.1 in the drop of bucket of people who make money in the world

Go watch Hip-hop evolution on Netflix, you have no idea what you're talking about.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

That's evident by the number of zeroes they put before the decimal point lol.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Of course but artist are not smart enough to go independent. They could easily put them out of business
