+147 Fish pics get too much hate, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think the fish pic is just really common so of you're swiping through apps you see a lot of them and after a while it's enough with the fish already

by Anonymous 1 year ago

My theory is that a lot of guys don't take many pictures of themselves so the ones they do have are the fish pics.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I never take pictures of myself, but i do take pics of my fishes with me in them so they are an easy (And often only) way to get a picture of me

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yup. This is exactly me. About 98% of photos that clearly show me in it, are fishing and hunting photos. Hunting being even more frowned upon than fishing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe take more pictures of yourself for dating profilea?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

solid theory are you like a professor?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Proctologist

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Call me Doctor Fishhook

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Think about how little effort this means you're putting in. Now think about how much effort they're putting in. This is why.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

i mean not much do they? i know some girls get studio photos, but there's a reason group photos for girls are a stereotyp and most of their pictures are other stuff in the club

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Studio photos for a dating app are a red flag in my book.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But why put in so much effort when you already have what you need, which is a photo of yourself?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That doesn't sell the guys though does it? They're trying to land a date but can't be arsed to take a decent selfie to use?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Also they want to show off and it's just not interesting

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Every selfie you have ever taken is "showing off". So what? It's a dating profile.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

One is showing off yourself and your looks, the other is something you killed for sport. Big difference.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most people catch and release. You sound insufferable

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Even if they kill to eat them, what of it?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Showing off your looks is a lot less interesting than showing a fun hobby

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Do you know this for a fact? Or are you just assuming? Because most guys I know don't use those pics for dating apps to show off. They use them because they don't have any other pics of themselves and they aren't good at taking selfies. Then women just assume they are trying to show off their fish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"Enough with the fish already" is exactly it

by Anonymous 1 year ago

How many fish can there be lol. I often feel like I'm the only one around fishing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

An endless number, if men on dating apps are any indication

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why don't men procreate with the fish instead?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I live in an area with several lakes, rivers and creeks There's a lot lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Haha yeah I agree. There is a lot of fish it starts to get old

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'd agree with that. Also I have no interest in going fishing, so there's that too.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Imagine being so picky that a picture of a fish puts you off dating someone

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I mean to be fair, if it's not your thing then it's a clear swipe left. It's like women who have pictures of them getting trashed at the club, it's an automatic no for me, which seems to eliminate a good majority of women from online dating lol hence why I don't use dating apps anymore

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But I'd rather see the picture and know my man wants a few hours by some water than get mad when he wants to go fishing for a while

by Anonymous 1 year ago

so in light of that, can we act the same way with makeup and beauty (without being scrutinized)?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What are you getting at.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You can do whatever you want

by Anonymous 1 year ago

For me, I grew up with the boys who wound up in the fish pictures… they're a certain type usually. We call them Yeye boys. They usually have like lifted trucks, and sunglasses, (reflective, with a strap). If they're not your cup of tea, they're REALLY not

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Depends on what part of the country you're in i think. But it does seem like the "basic bitch" of men things. Full disclosure, i have a fish pic as a fb profile pic. But i live in Alaska so im extra basic because everyone here has a fish pic profile.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"‘basic bitch' of men things" yeah, this is accurate

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Bros. Bros are everywhere, the toys (trucks etc) vary.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Woman here, former app dater. I don't think fish pics are all that bad, they're just used so often that they've become a cliche. And now people like to joke about that cliche. Personally, I think a fish pic is a way better option than a pic from 10 years ago, or one with your ex partially cropped out. But your best bet is to get some good photos of yourself, however you choose to do that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You mean that one wedding they were in 12 years ago with the blurry pic of the other groomsmen?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's the female version of pictures in a field of flowers or in front of some trendy street art

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Naw, it's more like a woman holding up her pumpkin spice latte in a picture.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I was on a dating app very briefly, and I was shocked at how many men used pictures where they are wearing beanies/hats, sunglasses, and/or surrounded by a group of other guys in most of their pics. It was truly a mystery trying to figure out which one they were and what they actually looked like. I'm glad you have friends and look good with your entire head and face covered, but seriously??

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No one wants to date fishy people.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Tell that to Guillermo del Toro

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I feel this will be a greatly under appreciated commitment

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Fishing is a big commitment. You're right, but once you get started, you're hooked

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Like a fish, right?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah, but when you think of how easy it is to get hooked, the whole thing starts to seem rather fishy.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I would much rather see a picture of some dude with a fish he caught than a low-effort meme

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Your dating pool Includes guys using memes as a profile pic? Hard pass.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

it's literally just bc it makes us think that the guy is a hick. especially if they have on a flannel, blue jeans and boots it just screams hillbilly

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The fish pic usually comes with drinking a cheap beer pic, a selfie inside their truck pic, and a pic of their motorcycle, with a profile that lists all the sports they watch. Not interested in ‘Berta boys. Dime a dozen, and not my vibe.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

‘Berta boys😂😂😂😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah how dare someone be a lower class white person from the south! That's how you sound rn

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I appreciate fish pics because it an easy sign that this is someone I don't want to date.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Same here. I hate it when animals are hurt for no reason. People throw the fish back sometimes, after the fish literally got pierced by their fishing rod thing. No thanks, we aren't a match

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Do you only date vegeterians?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

lmao

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think it's mainly the kind of vibes that people who do this more than the fish picture itself. For instance a lot of the time, but not everyone of course, people with the fish pictures are usually hEriTAgE nOt hATe kind of rednecks.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's just that's its so common, but men don't really take pics of themselves that's why one of the few pics they do have of themselves are from that one time they caught that big fish

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You like fish pics? Yeah? Do you like fish pics in your mouth?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

🎶all those lonely nights at the grocery store...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

When I tried tinder, I never saw the fish picture (I don't live in a big fishing area) but I saw many, many profiles with pictures of this specific rock. Like, all of these people had individually taken the same hike to the same weird shaped rock and taken a picture with it, and that was one of the *best* pictures of themselves they had ever taken apparently, because they used it on their dating profile. Let me explain why this picture made me *not* match with them, lol: you're trying to show that you're outdoorsy, but truly outdoorsy people have more than one pic of them hiking. Or they would have a pic of an actually cool place, like Moab or something. This rock is clearly like, if you live in that county, you've been to that rock. It's like a really thin rock that sticks out, so you stand on it and it looks like you're standing on a precariously thin ledge. So people take pics of themselves on it to be funny. Everybody's been there. It's not special that you've been there. Show me your secret hiking trail behind your neighborhood. Show me you holding a lizard you found, and I'll believe you go outside. The chip-rock pictures are like the outdoorsman equivalent of those pictures where they pretend to hold up the leaning tower of Pisa. It's like, so basic. Basic himbo behavior. I'm sorry this is so harsh lmao it's really not a big deal

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm from San Diego and every other profile had someone with that rock and "Take me on an adventure!"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Probably classifies a trip to Target as an adventure.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Play to the crowd. You may like fish pics, your bros might like fish pics, your dad might like fish pics, but is that the intended audience? The picture is not for you...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Back when I used Tinder like 8 years ago, I never minded the pictures of a guy holding a fish. Fishing is a hobby, after all. I agree I don't find it any different than a picture with a guitar or whatever. What I hated was the guys who had a bunch of pictures of their cars that didn't include them in it. I like cars a lot but I am trying to date a person, not a car.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's a photo of a dead animal, of course it's different to a photo of a guy holding a guitar. A guitar isn't a dead animal

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think the prevalence of the fish pic is because it's the only picture he has of himself that he actually likes.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I would guess it's probably the negative association that the fish pic people are probs those super "macho" men that think hunting and fishing is the most manly thing you could do and that any guy who doesn't is a gay wuss

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just think everyone deserves a partner, who can show some interest in your hobbies or is not really against accompanying you on trips related to your hobby. But there are some activities or hobbies like fishing or football/soccer I personally can't get into at all and have zero interest in going with someone to a lake just to sit quiet by it or watching a game or even talking about those things. Sorting these people directly out is just to avoid further disappointment on their side and boredom on my side.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I always pictured the guys fish pics matching with the girls horse pics

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Honestly the truth is most guys don't have many photos taken of them by someone else. Girls take photo of each other all time for no real reason other than they like a certain angle/light etc. Also they're generally pleased and proud in the photos. You never hear "Bro that light catches your shirt real nice hold that pose for a second, now do the skinny arm, yep now turn to the side, perfect"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed. Women just don't seem to understand that unless it's a event to be documented (ie. catching a fish), men just don't take pics of themselves. Eta: They are often out with mates too, so someone else can take it; whereas when in a past relationship they are the one holding the camera.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Fish picks are some of the only pictures that a lot of men have of themselves. That is why they show up so often on the swiping apps

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Less pictures….more personality in your bio

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The reason that it's so unpopular even with people fine with fishing is that with online dating your profile is your first impression. So I can understand why someone wouldn't be thrilled if the first picture they see of you is smiling ear to ear covered in grime and burned to hell holding a dead dying fish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't use the apps, but if you enjoy fishing enough to make it part of your profile, it's likely a big part of your life. I prefer staying inside playing videogames, so I wouldn't view them as compatible with me. Id want to be able to at least feign interest in their personal interests. There's nothing wrong with having separate interests, but I'd feel like an asshole for not even pretending to care.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I mean you kind of explained it yourself. It's very common and generic so what's setting this guy apart from a thousand other people with the same pic?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The people I've met who like to go fishing are always really weird

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well I think it depends, if there is just one nice one ok, but if the majority of your pics have fish I wonder if that's all that person does. I like profile pics that showcase your personality and different interests. Similarly if every single pic is of you on your motorcycle, or with cars I'm like ok, fantastic, but is that your whole personality, like if it is ok, but that probably won't work for a lot of people unless they also have that very particular interest and are also wild about it. Eg if we are together will you go fishing all weekend or on fishing trips and I will never see you?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The trick is to take it up a notch. Go to your local grocery store's seafood section wearing a suit and get your friend to take a nice picture of you standing in front of the holocaust of fish on display. You'll instantly put these solo fish displaying men to shame and women will recognize your industriousness.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Fish pics are annoying, cause I'm personally not into guys who fish and they're constant but any fishing pic is better than guys who use their hunting pics on dating profiles. I do not want to see a bloody, loll eyed, dead deer while I'm looking for hot guys

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I didn't reach out to the guys with fish pics back in my Tinder days because it let me know ow that they would want to do outdoors things. I hate outdoors.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No one wants a fish pic on the first date, have some class 😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I hate fishing so why would I like a pic of someone fishing?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

As a passionate angler, I appreciate this. I love fishing and being out in nature, it sucks that we can't share that hobby without being hit by cliches and stereotypes

by Anonymous 1 year ago

im biased because i love sitting there while they fish, helping with bait and making lunch. i dont know why they get hate either, i love fishing pics, especially if they look really proud and are smiling.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If she dont like my fish pictures shes probably a stuck up wench anyway so her loss and i still caught a fish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed. Flex the fish. The size of the fish he's holding correlates with the size of his heart.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

depends on the tank for me. is it a well maintained, well stocked tank or is it literally animal abuse? it can help to find out who to avoid

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You are posing with a dead animal. You have to be okay with violence and really interested in this fishkilling to find it impressive you painfully ripped an animal out of their environment with a hook and hit its head with a rock. And then people should be impressed if you killed unusually large fish that had no way of defending itself? Same thing for me as watching a picture of a man dangling a dead dog from its collar. Shows that you are a person who likes casual violence.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Animal cruelty is not a hobby.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Fish still feel pain when getting hooked, on average, 10% of the caught and released fish die.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yes, that's what I'm saying. It's disgusting what these people are doing to the poor animals.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Imagine comparing holding a guitar to holding a literal corpse with a happy face LMAO

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Right? A guy who plays guitar is a total panty dropper. Fishing, not so much.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The only photos of my husband that show his true happiness, are the one right after we said our vows, and every fishing picture he's ever taken, in his life. Just pure joy. I love those photos of him. I love my husband! And when I see other men with fish pictures, I just think how happy they must be at that moment, and for men that is kind of a vulnerable moment to share and it's so honest and so sweet.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It shows that your hobby is torturing animals. We may believe they don't feel pain the same as us, but we are always finding more ways animals feel and understand life in deeper ways than previously understood. Young bees play and have a sense of fun. Who are we to say fish don't feel pain? Fishing for sustinance is one thing, but for fun is kinda torture. Ladies don't appreciate torturing animals as a trait of men generally. Also fishing is boring af

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's not a giant leap from fish picture to abhorrent political views... In fact, it's more of a tiny shuffle, not even a real step.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think it just gets mocked because it's the indicator that you're a basic bitch but for dudes. It's the equivalent of a girl having the dog filter on her profile: there's nothing inherently wrong but it doesn't make me want to date you more.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I guess people who fish forget that it's actually a picture of a dead animal that you killed? Nothing dies when you play your guitar.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

hey a LOT of songs get murdered by people with who own guitars

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Catch and release...?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most anglers practice catch and release and follow guidelines to protect the fish from permanent damage

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Then you should know that most fish die after they are released. I'd respect to fisherman more if he kept his catch an actually ate it. Sport fishing is cruel.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No they don't die if it was handled properly. Where in the world are you getting this from.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I live in one of the biggest fishing towns in the world. There is a reason why the indigenous people don't "catch and release"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Suggestion......try a pic of you while fishing (hobbies/interests) but before you catch a fish and definitely *not* holding up a fish you just caught (why upstage yourself with a dead or gasping fish in the foreground?). (From experience. I like fishing too and spent a lot of time on dating sites back in the day. Have a friend take a long shot showing your good side in waders or on a boat and the sweep of nature around you.)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Fish smell bad, people who fish end up smelling like fish, so the photo smells gross in your brain as soon as you see it. Also it's gross and weird to choose to show a hobby that involves killing things. Also the assumption that women find fish a turn-on (which they a billion percent don't) implies you have no social skills.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's showing someone killing/torturing someone else. Easy. Bar and clubs pictures while disgusting for someone like me, it's a bit better. Bu even thoset those people are still in the category of do not interact with.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm a vegetarian, but if you eat your catch that's totally fine with me. That said, I still find those pictures in somewhat poor taste. But even more, I just find the pictures unattractive because the guys usually look their worst in them lol. I'm attracted to guys who have some sense of style, so if all I see is you in your worst casual clothes I am going to assume that's what you always look like. 🤷‍♀️

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't think it's bad per se but I am swiping left because you lack creativity and also you enjoy killing animals . It's cool just not my vibe

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Makes you look like a republican. Republicans generally are anti woman.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Any ladies who don't like fish or hunting pics just aren't worth your time lol. It's basically like saying, "Hey, I really don't like when a man can procure food for me."

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe because there's an ethical problem where people don't want to see the fish you are suffocating and is most likely going to die when you throw it back in. Or maybe my morals don't align with hurting sentient beings for a sensory pleasure?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Crazy how people are annoyed with fish pics and yet I have to sift throw hundreds of fat girls taking really poor selfies with low quality and stupid ass filters that change what you look like. Also, punch up much? I get average to below average matches that actually think they have a chance with me. I know I'm not Jason mamoa but I'm decent looking and these chicks expecting me to want more than a hook up is just kinda offensive.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Gross.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They don't get enough hate. Same as group pics we know you just be the ugly one 😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's generic. Nobody really likes looking at dead things. It doesn't really tell us much about you.

by Anonymous 1 year ago
