Some torn shirts are fashionable and some torn jeans are signs of poverty. It really depends on the brand and style more than the article of clothing.

If you buy torn pants its called fashion, if you wear pants until they are torn its a sign of poverty. As someone who wore pants until they tore as a kid, i would never buy torn pants.
