+188 Conspiracy theorist like the moon landing deniers are the only poeple who thinks that the goverment is very competent. amirite?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Also, people are just contrarian. I saw somewhere that if the government ever just announced that aliens were real, all the conspiracy nuts would switch from "the truth is out there" to "well they can't *really* prove aliens are real."

by Anonymous 10 months ago

That's exactly the thing. Flat earthers and the like care much less about actually believing the theories they put forward, than disbelieving the "official versions". That's why you can't counter conspiracy theorists with debating _the theories_. Their brain is not set on _that_ level at all.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

> Flat earthers and the like care much less about actually believing the theories they put forward, than ~~disbelieving the "official versions".~~ blaming the jews for everything. Seriously though, scratch a flat earther (and most other conspiracy theorists) and you'll find a whole lot of anti-semitism right below the surface.

-Conspiracist : the Jews dominate the world! -Mmh... not sure the Chinese are Jewish

by Anonymous 10 months ago

My buddy uncle is a flat earther. This is true.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

…who's gonna tell him

by Anonymous 10 months ago

What

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Looks like the government's competence is a real conspiracy after all.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

The government wants you to think the government knows what its doing. Does anyone wonder why?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

They're either competent enough to send people to the moon or competent enough to make everyone believe they did.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

In fact most conspiracy theorists will equally argue that the government are morons, yet still orchestrated a conspiracy spanning 15 parallel universes.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

15? These are rookie numbers, gotta pump these numbers up!

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Welcome to Aperture Science.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

This is a very good point. Also depending on the depth of the conspiracy, they also think that hundreds of people can keep a secret for decades.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

The Manhattan Project was kept secret for a long time. There are other projects that stayed secret for years. Our shape shifting lizard overlords that rule from their underground secret bases are very capable of keeping secrets.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yeah, it was such a well kept secret that the exact information most important to keep under wraps-nuclear bomb blueprints-ended up in at least one of the three hands that were exactly the ones it was supposed to be kept out of (Stalin's).

by Anonymous 10 months ago

It's sort of true about the Manhattan Project. The American public was pretty much in the dark. The Russians, however, were very aware of what we were doing.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Thousands

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Two people couldn't keep a blowjob secret, something that only happened between *them.* And you think hundreds of thousands of people can keep something secret with zero leaks?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Once my family had guests over and my dad started in on that conspiracy, I said, "Ugh yeah he's one of those people" and then they agreed with him... awkward.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

While I don't believe the moon landing was fake, I do think there is a difference between politicians and government agencies covering things up. There are definitely things that have happened that the government has tried to cover up.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

No, the chemtrail conspiracy theorists think the government is competent enough to keep a campaign of spraying chemicals using commercial airliners over the country quiet.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yes, those are conspiracy theorists too.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

That's the neat thing. They're more likely to be the people who feel that the government is run by morons...yet are still capable of covering up the fact that the Earth is flat, the moon is a hologram, and they spend billions of dollars a year to hoax the ISS footage.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

This reminds me of a quip I heard that conspiracy theorists are people who never tried to schedule a whale watching trip for 4 families

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Haven't you seen movies? All aliens speak English with an American accent. Is cause we are in contact on a regular basis.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

People who work in the government and know all the behind the scenes details know how competent they are. But hey, it's easy to insult or look down on things you don't understand.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Actually it's the opposite. People who don't believe the moon landing, along with a lot of other fake stories feel the government is very incompetent. That they're so incompetent the information gets out. As well, the intelligence agencies are the ones pulling the stuff off, not the completely incompetent politicians.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Wait, do people think that there is no higher supremacy beyond the ‘government'?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yes, high IQ minds like me are aware the reptilians run everything.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

There can be an argument made for cats too. My cat controls multiple lives all by her own while sleeping like 16 hours a day.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

That gecko owning a whole insurance company is just the tip of the iceberg

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Why you gotta get all religious? /s

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Nothing to do with religion actually. I believe there is somewhat of a government above the government..

by Anonymous 10 months ago

like who? Mcdonalds?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? It's probably turtles all the way down, right?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

I mean, back in the days of Queen Victoria and her children/grandchildren, one family pretty much ruled half the world. And even then, they couldn't form a cohesive world government.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Dude, governments have no real power, those with billions of dollars, and those who hide their wealth do.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

I think that's what he meant but phrased it oddly. There are people who control the world and use govt leaders as their puppets basically because they have buttloads of money.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

The Soviets would have to be in on it, and there is just no way they'd agree to that.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Humans are very bad at coordinating, and by extension lying when huge number of poeple ar3 involved. As it the rise of the Mongol Empire would not been so vast if thier enemies are more coordinated.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

I'm sorry I have to be the asshole but moon landing deniers ARE conspiracy theorists. You know because they believe in the conspiracy that the moon landing was faked. Same goes for flat earthers - they are still just conspiracy theorists.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yeah? Who said they weren't?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Title implies they are different or is just redundant. If I say "All fish and salmon are tasty" It either implies salmon aint fish since I specify or its just redundant but looks like I'm wrong for some reason. Why did he not say flat earthers also or just moon landing deniers get a special shout out from the conspiracy theorists?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Imagine thinking the government would be a single entity instead of multiple organizations. Do you think Biden is currently steering the US?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

I do get where they are coming from when they say the moon landing was fake, but the truth is the cgi of the time was not powerful enough to produce the footage they got from the moon

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Well i worked in aerospatial industry... and while i don't think government is very competent.... the aerospatial is ... well it could be handle to be more efficient... it cannot be real neither lol

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yeah, sure, you work in an industry which you can't even spell correctly... And claim "cannot be real". 🤦‍♂️ It is AEROSPACE not aerospatial. #GTFOH

by Anonymous 10 months ago

> Well i worked in aerospatial industry... >the aerospatial is ... …not a thing

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Naw its hard to believe anything from media nowadays. There's always a bias and narrative being spun.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Uh? In which country? In our country dumb people and conspiracy theorist think, that USA is creating tornado in our country, Moon landing was fake, Covid-19 was fake, elections are manipulated, etc. Never heard from any of them that any of our politics would be very competent :D

by Anonymous 10 months ago

What are you talking about? Most conspiracy theorists agree that Trump was the most competent politician ever. (/s)

by Anonymous 10 months ago

They believe the government is deceptive and untrustworthy at all levels while holding it up as a yardstick of legitimacy and keeper of the truth of their belief.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

For the promise of "being in the club" I have no doubt you would keep your mouth shut too

by Anonymous 10 months ago

No, we think you're very gullible and that the fakes are not convincing at all.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

They don't though, because they obviously found the truth through the cracks lol. Besides, convincing a mob is easy. Convincing individuals is hard.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

"Unrealistic competency" is a common denominator in most conspiracy theories. In particular the "9-11 inside job" nonsense. I used to exasperate myself arguing with 9-11 Truthers about how unbelievably large & complex such an operation would need to be. I got nowhere with them, of course.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

I don't think I've ever heard conspiracy theorists think the government is competent. Except for thinking Trump was competent.

by Anonymous 10 months ago

If the moon landing was faked and the government is hiding the secrets, where do the stories of it being a secret come from?

by Anonymous 10 months ago

Yep - the problem with all conspiracy theories is that they assume a large (and constantly increasing) amount of people can keep a secret. Nothing from human history proves that to be true.
