+155 Most "rhythm games" don't have anything to do with rhythm, and should be called something else. amirite?

This is an ignorant opinion. Rhythm has a formal language. Formal languages for rhythm have existed since the catholic church. You can read rhythm on paper and interpret the time each sound is supposed to take place in without hearing it. Rhythm games have an equivalent language. For instance, in DDR, arrows correlate to quarter, 8th, whole/half, and off beat/triplet and is in the same time signature as the song. The same is true for all rhythm games. And the reality is yes, you can play ANY rhythm game deaf. That doesn't mean there's no rhythm. The notes are following a logically consistent beat based on the time signature of the song.

You could also play any rhythm game blind as well.
