+167 Intelligence isn't genuinely appreciated, until you meet someone who has none. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Average intelligence maybe, but I've met with and worked with some pretty smart people and still in awe of how their brain works.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have a nephew like this. Trying to play a strategy game against him is like trying to win a foot race with a cheetah. He just whips past you, his mind zipping away before you've even had a chance to fully grasp the rules. Good thing he is such a sweet kid, because it would be *very, very aggravating* otherwise.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sounds like you need to git gud! All joking aside, chances are he has much more free time to practice those skills.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've been on the receiving end of these compliments, but as I finished my finals, I got a certificate telling me I'm a certified dumbass. Boy, do I have a dim future ahead of me.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If it makes you feel better, finals typically have very little bearing on intelligence in corporate life

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, regardless of intellect, I have to do separate stuff to reach the goal I want. Unfortunately, it's becoming increasingly unrealistic to reach said goal. I've got nothing to prove anymore. Peers are starting to get way out of my reach, and I'm inevitably sinking deeper into a scary territory. So far, it's not that bad, but I've partially lost interest in my otherwise strong interests. Whether it's love interest, hobbies, so and so - you get the idea. Doesn't help that I'm a competitive guy. In other words, I'm running out of "It is what it is"es I guess one could be optimistic about the things that aren't so bad. But one might be naïve to think so. Only time will tell.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You're going to be fine. Just pick a lane and stick with it

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Same. My buddy has 3 patents and is a going for his doctorate rn, meanwhile I'm sitting on a bachelors and 4 years fighting the govt for disability. I think the key thing is, they're still people, they're just burnt tf out on dealing with incompetence. You and I deal with it on an everyday basis answering the phone or ordering a veggie mayo sandwich lol but they have to deal with people not carrying a 0 or leaving the instruments exposed overnight that drastically changes months worth of work. Not to say it's harder, but there's a degree of precision and know-how that you expect in those situations that just doesn't exist at any other level. The most prominent chemical engineer in the world is right now complaining about how his lab techs suck at reading emails. The dude is wicked smart but still struggles with basic interpersonal communication

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh jeez. Its the idjits with strong opinions and won't shut up that chap my hide.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's a mighty strong opinion you got there partner

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Indeed. Friends call me the Chapper. They would if I had any.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I mean, considering half the people on this website it makes sense,

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Bobby?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

don't bet on it, i live in kentucky and stupidity is something people are proud of and cherish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Seems that way in more than just ky imo.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's often true. Sometimes it takes encountering someone with limited intelligence or knowledge to truly appreciate and value the intelligence and knowledge of others. It can help us recognize the importance and impact of intelligence in various aspects of life.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

ChatGPT, is that you?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No it's Patrick.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wow you're right, this really does read like chatgpt wrote it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Gpt says hello🤟

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I was at a barbecue, recently. Some of the guys I didn't know well and a few I met then and there. They started talking about aliens, government and media conspiracy theories and Joe Rogan. Honestly it made me sad. Then they went and did ketamine inside.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most conspiracy theorists aren't stupid at all, in fact their intelligence is what makes them stupid in an ironic sort of way, they fixate on one avenue of reasoning and ignore anything that upsets their perceived reality, intelligent but not wise.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Or you meet someone more intelligent than yourself

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Or someone who knows you better than yourself o.o

by Anonymous 1 year ago

How do you think that happens? Like I know it happens, I've experienced it myself, but I always wondered how could it be

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But what are we talking about? You make it sound negative to have limited intelligence, like it goes hand in hand with being an idiot. The only issue is arseholes. One could say someone who thinks they are better because they have a higher intelligence is an arsehole. I know which I prefer.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It could literally be the situation like in Flowers for Algernon. You feel the sadness and desperation as he slowly loses his intelligence. It really is heartbreaking to see a reflection of his inevitable future self. It could be a parallel to many mental declines rooted in genetics. People like Charlie often get bullied and mistreated by society. Just interactions with other people can become very cruel if one had very limited intelligence because you're often exploited and treated lesser.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Limited intelligence in today's time with the internet is willful ignorance

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Completely wrong. I think this comes down to what you class as intelligence. So I don't know something but then Google it, am I now intelligent? Is it just knowing information? Is it ability to think creatively or logically?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's like saying you didn't know something so you read a book about it. Yes it works the same way with googling it, you learned something.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think you missed my point? After reading the book am I now 'intelligent'? What if I can't retain it. What is intelligence to you? I don't think you know.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Knowledge isn't intelligence. Plenty of dumb cunts know things.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The way how you train creative or logic thinking is by processing information and then practicing. If you constantly google stuff, read about it, see how ideas are developed properly, you improve. If you sit back and let society, media and friends to tell you what to think and what to feel, you are just a passive receptor, you end up ignorant, angry and often evil.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't see what your point is. I was asking the person I was replying to what they consider intelligence to be. I didn't need it explained to me how to do it using Google. Google isn't the only way to learn everything....there was a time before google. As for your second point I think you are making quite the leap to evil. Not knowing stuff does not make you a bad person. Some of the most evil people are intelligent. So your logic doesn't really fit there.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Guess I should start hanging out with smarter people...for my own appreciation, of course.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Perhaps not, but Wisdom is always noticed, appreciated, and you can't swing a bat without hitting someone without. Aspire to wisdom, not intelligence.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

TIL the 2023 IQ of populations by size doing a google search.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's ignorance. Intelligence is being able to translate your message in different ways for different people.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So… intelligence is directly related to communication?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This seems obvious to me really, consider someone who is obnoxious and arrogant versus someone who is understanding and can add to your conversation, perhaps even inspires and empowers you to be better than yourself.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

i feel that what is appreciated is not so much intelligence, as wit. intelligence is knowledge of a lot of things, but wit is the understanding on how to use said knowledge, thats how you can have stupid Harvard grads or idiotic takes from doctors and scientist

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You can be very smart, and still need to be taught things about the world.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'd say more common sense than intelligence. Intelligence that produces results is usually at the very least acknowledged

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've never lost an argument with a moron.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But everyone you've ever met has some sort of knowledge that you lack. I think the only exception is people with very severe mental disabilities, in which case I agree

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Does willful ignorance count as a mental disability?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

With or without context, this is funny.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

As long as it's willful or a conscious choice then probably not. If the person has like Down syndrome then I see where you're coming from. This is assuming you don't have like a genius level IQ

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Having knowledge doesn't necessarily mean having intelligence.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hmm. Or more. It's searing. Not cocky, but it's rare for me. Maybe 5-15th percentile. No matter the educational level, raw intelligence is undeniable. "Things goin on I don't know" like second to second. (Lynrd Skynrd ref) fn changing ever 3 seconds.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So when I walk outside?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I didn't appreciate how smart dogs are until I saw how stupid goats are

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Considering how many babies there are I'd expect more people to appreciate intelligence.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Mainly cuz it's the stupidest people who are the loudest

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Met a dumb dumb today, eh?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh I definitely morn other people's ignorance and my own stress when I realize i'm gonna have to bridge intellect and personality of others to safety.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ignorance is truly appreciated at a distance.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Arrr… I think you mean intelligence isn't appreciated until you meet who has similar intelligence.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Just like common sense.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

We thank you for your service.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Allow me to introduce myself

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I never realized how smart I was until I started arguing with my cat.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I guess that explains why my cat thinks I'm a genius.
