+133 YouTube Music is worthless as a streaming service, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

YT music has a family plan the includes ad-free YouTube. The family plan for 4 people (it might be 5 now? Not sure though) is less than Spotify for 1 person. If you don't use YouTube and don't care about ad-free, probably not worth it. If you like Spotify just because the wrapped and "exclusive features", probably not worth it. I do notice similar issues with YTM to Spotify like the shuffle button not truly shuffling, but YTM doesn't have a setting to fix that so point for Spotify

by Anonymous 1 year ago

YTM has an end of year and end of season review for music, I got my spring recap a few days ago.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The shuffle feature, for some reason is disabled after you shuffle for the first song. So if you shuffle, and then click the shuffle button twice, first to disable and then reenable it should shuffle properly

in the US youtube family plan is $29.99/month for the plan including regular youtube. $19.99 for the youtube music only family plan, but its up to 6 members

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hard disagree. YouTube music here costs me 600RSD a month (a bit under 6USD). What they surpass everyone in is variety. Now this may not matter to someone who listens exclusively to Anglo songs, but as someone who listens to Italian, French, Iberian Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian, and Greek music as well as a bit of Khmer and Japanese, no other platform comes close. Including Spotify which is 1500RSD a month (14USD).

How'd you get into Balkan music

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Being born and raised in Serbia helped :-)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Any chance of an example link to a Balkan song/band you appreciate? Always willing to broaden my perspective.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Pretty much anything made by Parni Valjak is fire also Plavi Orkestar has a balkan California Dreamin called Ljubi se iztok i zapad, Igra rok en rol cela jugoslavija by Elektricni orgazam is also good.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most of the artists I enjoy aren't really on Spotify , or it'll be an older obscure song that isn't on Spotify so it helps with what I need/want. And with that I get zero ads on YouTube and let's be honest, we all use YouTube a LOT .

by Anonymous 1 year ago

THIS, what I don't like about Spotify is the utter absence of niche remixes and rare songs that I can only find on YouTube.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I live for my Youtube music app

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I love it too, don't know what the problem is and I get add free YouTube aswell

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Dunno what's OP's experience, but YouTube algorithm feel like it reads my mind. Maybe because I've been on YouTube for 20 years, and they somehow stored all of my browsing data **puts on tinfoil hat**

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It does have a windows app. Its much better than spotify because for the same price you also get adless youtube. Also there is a much bigger selection.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Was going to say this: I have the app on every computer I use (work and @ home). Its algorithm for putting playlists together based on what it "thinks" I might like isn't perfect, but it's also the best of any service I've tried.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Is this unpopular? I don't know anyone who uses it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I 100% use it and I prefer it more than spotify. Mainly because the music I listen to is only available on youtube music lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Exact same situation here, I'd rather slightly worse sound quality than no sound at all

by Anonymous 1 year ago

When I payed for Spotify, it would basically play the same music all the time, or put regaeton, Shakira or other crap that I don't like, with ytm I have discovered bunch of bands and even songs of my favorite artists that I haven't heard

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I use it only because it's included with premium. It does the job but OP is right it could use a general UI overall. It reminds me of my Microsoft Zune in high school.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I always wanted a zune even tho i had the ipod lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have some friends that say it's better than Spotify.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I like it better than Spotify

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I too like it way more than Spotify. Spotify just had such a small collection comparatively, and Spotify can't beat the pricing of the YouTube family plan. Also, no ads. Switched to GPM/YT music a few years ago and I'm never looking back.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I absolutely agree with you

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Spotify is less of a battery hog than YouTube and has better audio quality

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But It doesn't have the songs I listen to so none of that matters

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It is

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It is.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I uploaded my 25k library of songs to Google music years ago... It all got transferred to Youtube Music for free. Very nice

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Same. I only use YTM to listen to stuff from my own personal collection, so I have no complaints about it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I respect your opinion, man, but I gotta disagree. Is YouTube Music amazing? No, not really. But is it convenient, affordable and meet all of my needs? Yea, it does. Again, it isn't incredible, but it's where I listen to a lot of my music. I just don't think it's worthless.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Having the option to stream music videos is entertaining as well.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Listening to YT Music as I read this. Also, you sound angry. You ok?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I used it until i got spotify premium

by Anonymous 1 year ago

A lot of YouTube channels have trash audio

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just use to listen to game soundtracks when I'm not listening to normal music on Spotify, it's great for obscure tracks.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I use youtube music but thats because alot of the live and studio versions I want arent available on spotify.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I play 7,20€ for youtube premium which includes youtube music. So I'd say it's a great added bonus to youtube premium for me. But if you don't use youtube premium I'd agree it's better to go with something else.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Disagree. I bought it for YouTube premium. YT music is all I use now, as far as music streaming goes. I'm not a audiophile tho.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

As someone who watches YouTube more than I do any other streaming service, I just pay for Premium. It costs $11.99 a month and YouTube music is included. So I'm happy not having to pay for a music app, while being able to download videos and not have ads.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

>It's also not like YouTube has really good lossy quality. YouTube Music has lower audio quality than Spotify, streaming at 256kbps compared to Spotify's 320kbps. AAC (or superior) audio codecs are transparent at 256 kb\s for stereo. These extra 64 kb\s aren't doing much other than maybe having a placebo effect on you.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I know a couple people who use it and it's very annoying to share music with them. I do really like Apple Music and it seems like Spotify is good too

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed, YouTube music is by far the worst music streaming service. Lowest audio quality, their library is a complete mess for someone who likes to have his music organised (full albums, right album covers,...) Their algorithms have 10 years delayed in comparison to spotify and finally the ergonomy of the app, it's a nightmare to navigate with

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Looks like YouTube Music is the world traveler's ultimate jam! 🌍🎶

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Google music was so much better, fusing the two together made a real mess of playlists

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, with all those features and benefits, who wouldn't want to switch to YouTube Music? Sign me up!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Looks like YouTube Music is the multilingual maestro of streaming! No competition!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is a very common opinion

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Youtube Music does have the most songs out of them all. Some songs are still not on Spotify.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Here I am just listening to music videos on regular YouTube. I set it to 144p to save bandwidth, minimise browser and get on with whatever I'm doing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Family plan with ad free YouTube. Can't beat it for me.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, if YouTube Music was a person, it would definitely win the Most Useless Streaming Service award!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I disagree. You can get YouTube Premium, which not only gives you no ads and offline downloads on YouTube, but also YouTube Music. If you're an avid YouTube user, it's a no-brainer, as you save on having to pay for another streaming service. Plus, on YouTube Music, you can listen to anything uploaded on YouTube, which is really nice for rare songs, and you can also upload your own .mp3 files if the songs you want to listen to aren't in their library. And you can pay annually instead of monthly, which saves money. Sure, the algorithm isn't as good as Spotify's, but I think these other things outweigh that. And one more nice thing about YouTube Music is that you can get YouTube recommendations for videos related to the music you've been listening to.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's cheaper. Comes packaged with YT. No fear of my favourite songs being unplayable due to licensing issues. Better sound quality than Spotify. The Quick play section is great. Its got much much more songs than Spotify

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I used it for a month determined to like it. I loved the idea of having all the music on YouTube available alongside the library you would find on a platform like Spotify. I had a torrid time with it. I couldn't believe how incompetently made the whole experience was. The nail in the coffin for me was the shockingly bad personal music upload section. You couldn't organise your music or alter the metadata. Don't have this feature if you can't do these things! There is no appeal to having your own private music collection available if it's just a trashed unalterable mess.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Bruh just download the free APK for Spotify premium lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

YouTube Music is the best music streaming service hands down.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

a lot of music i listen to isnt on any other apps so nope...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, I guess YouTube Music is like a clown without any jokes. Just completely useless and disappointing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, if YouTube Music was a person, it would win the Worst Streaming Service Award hands down.
