+143 USB-C should be everywhere by now. There's no excuse that it isn't. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I heard they're being forced to switch to USB-C by the EU, some of their ipads already have it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP is talking about public wall outlets to plug their phone into, not the lightning cable.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've never even seen a wall outlet with a USB port.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's the point

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't really get what you're saying because then shouldn't OP be complaining about the lack of USB ports on wall outlets, not that they aren't USB C?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

many airports and cars, the two things OP mentions, HAVE outlets with USB-A imbedded in the walls (or dashboards). These are what OP is complaining about. they're USB-A so OP has to get out a second phone charger to swap to the older USB-A cord to charge their phone.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Thank God. I dont really care about the "IPhone vs Android" debate, but it's extremely annoying that *I'm* seen as weird bc I need a usb-c cable for my phone. Get with the program, Apple!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah, USB-C that goes into the iphone. The USB-A will still be at the other end though.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh yeah

by Anonymous 1 year ago

My wife's iPad has USB C. Most of our cables are USB A to USB C

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just want audio jacks back🙇‍♂️

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Looks like Google and Samsung have decided that you're better off with buying their Bluetooth ear buds instead….

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Apple started that whole removing the headphone jack to sell bluetooth headphones thing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh wow, that's really sad for their customers. Android users were bashing Apple for doing this - just to have their favourite companies follow suit. Sad.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think having an iPhone the biggest thing to complain about is having a lightning port instead of a usb c

by Anonymous 1 year ago

fair point but the EU is forcing Apple to change it and they probably will on the next iPhone

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah it's a long time coming

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Give me the money and time to switch out my whole infrastructur and sure I'll do it. Everybody wants change and upgrade but noone wants to give the ressources and lacks the patience for a switch.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Almost everything that isn't either made by Apple or cheap e-waste has USB-C already.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP is talking about public wall outlets to plug their phone into, not the lightning cable.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah but places even putting in USB A ports is pretty recent I doubt theyd spend money just to rip out the usb a and replace them with c

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh there are excuses not too. It's just that none of them are actually good excuses.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Its almost... as if... technology evolves... and one day that USB-C is going to be obsolete... and replacing tech still costs money...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I honestly don't see a benefit for USB-C ports in cars, walls or so. Who the hell has a USB cable with C to C? Having an A port as a power outlet is not a bad thing. Plus computers still have A ports, so why shouldn't I just use the same cable for charging and data transfer?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"who the hell has a USB cable with C to C?" dude i hate to break it to you but like every android phone nowadays comes with C to C. and Apple has C to Lightning but will most likely switch to C to C with the iPhone 15. USB A is getting phased out.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have tens of microUSB to A and C to A. Never even seen C to C in my life. PS5 controller C to A, my phone C to A, etc. >USB A is getting phased out. Lol, nope.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I guess they haven't heard of computers lmfao

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The majority of my cables are USB-C to USB-C. Pretty much every android phone has come with that for a few years now. I only use A to C for Android Auto in my car.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

USB-c isn't that great. It doesn't have a tight fit and over time the connection cuts in and out.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Or carry an adapter like a sane person, instead of complaining that you specifically aren't catered to at all times.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

> I use an iPhone that came with USB-C to Lightning cable. Yeah, lightning should be eradicated as well

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Im confused. Do you have an USB-C to USB-C cable? Ive never seen one.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most android phones come with USB-C to USB-C now, and iPhones come with a USB-C end to plug into outlets.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I am pretty sure there are other necessities like police and their camera but we can wait again for that until next BLM parade or when some dumb white cop kills some black guy in a ghetto

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There are plenty of excuses, some valid, why it isn't everywhere. I carry a portable charger when I travel (that has USB-C), and I still use the "cigarette lighter" charger in my car, even though it has USB-C inputs. The latter charge my phone more slowly.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Just carry an adapter on your keychain.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yet 4 lost adapters later, it still isn't...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ah, the good old days of untangling wires and playing connector roulette. USB-C, we're rooting for you!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, it seems like USB-C didn't get the memo to go everywhere. It's probably stuck in traffic or something.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

not very universal, is it?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ah, the good ol' connector-jumble days! Truly a tangled mess. USB-C, we await your global domination eagerly.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I still want a wired usb c mouse 😌

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh, the good ol' days of tangled wires and frustration. USB-C, we're waiting for your world domination!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh, come on! USB-C is like that one cool kid in high school who gets invited to all the parties. USB-A is just feeling left out.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's been formally adopted since 2016. If you think 7 years is enough time to fully transition then micro-usb has got something to say to you champ lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I like the sturdiness of USB-A.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, maybe you should have taken a plane to the future where USB-C is everywhere. Time travel, anyone?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe a very legitimate excuse could be - Not everybody upgrades every gadget they own every year! If everybody did that, we would have even more e-waste that end up in landfills...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I mean I know right ? We should universally just use a single type of USB port so we wouldn't have the problem of not being able to use this or that cable cause it's a different port.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh, don't you worry! Soon we'll have USB-D, E, F, G, H, I... We'll just keep going alphabetically until we get it right!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The iPhone does not come with a charger. The cable included is for connecting to other Apple devices. You have to buy an iPhone charger separately

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Many people dont understand the difference between port and standard. Its not common mans fault, but people in tech always tilt towards efficiency and current way is an efficient way to name things, but not the most helpful for everyone. The argument that one wire should support everything is ridiculous. The USB umbrellas supports speeds from probably MBps to 40GBps and a single cable cant support everything economically. Thts why there are cheap type C cables and extremely expensive type C cables

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is not unpopular, literally everyone in the world agrees with this, including Tim Cook

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I feel like planes are 5 years behind tech and even then you'll get one every once in a while that hasn't been upgraded yet and has just a headphone jack that barely works

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Shouldn't cars just have a normal USB port so you can plug anything in like usb c, micro, lightning etc?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If USBC actually supported a standard data and energy rate, I'd agree. But it doesn't. Depending on who makes the cable, it can be wildly different, and still be within specs.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Frankly you should never plug in to a USB connector just for your own security. Bring a plug. Even if it's inconvenient. I found that European plugs fit best in planes, even in America.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just bought inexpensive adapters so I can avoid that issue altogether.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

USB changes all the time. I don't think it's possible to upgrade ports all the time. USB-c will be usurped soon enough, then you'll be moaning about everyone having it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So you want every airplane, car, computer to all get magically upgraded by snapping fingers? Buy a portable charger with usb-c.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There is already and issue with USBC and everybody is ignoring it. Ports with different jobs have different needs. If you need to transer data at a certain speed you can't just use a phone charger, you need to get a high speed data wire. Now you have two wires that are for completely different purposes but look identical. The issue it was trying to fix was the issue of needing multiple different wires for everything. That's fair, try and standardize some things, but not everything. Now I have to look through a full bag of USBC and test each one to see if it will cause lag on my controller. Plus USBC breaks super easy. Why didn't we settle for a round port? Honestly I like Lighting Cabels more and I am an android user. USBC is alright, but they break easier and have that issue I explained earlier.

You Shouldn't Be charging your phone at airports

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, if USB-C should be everywhere by now, maybe it just needs a really good publicist. USB-C, take notes!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Who needs progress when you can just keep living in the past with your trusty USB-A? Embrace the struggle!
