I prefer wearing glasses and have no interest in laser corrective surgery, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
you can still wear glasses for eye protection even if you have perfect vision.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I sweat too much. I hate wearing glasses. I can't wear contacts for long nowadays either. My eyes get so dry after a couple of hours.
Also, I just feel like colors are so much more vibrant when I have my glasses off. Everything is just so blurry though.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Are you sure your diopters are measured right? Mine was off by 0.25 and since I got that corrected I feel like seeing stuff more vibrant :D
by Anonymous1 year ago
As someone who wears glasses, I agree. Aside from the protection glasses give, there are also risks from getting the surgery, especially if your prescription is high.
There's people who can't see well even with glasses after the surgery, or they have to use eye drops for lifetime.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This is the reason I decided against it after wanting it for so long. I got a job as a 3D artist, so being able to see small details is important to me.
If I want to look like I don't wear glasses I wear contact lenses.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I won't ever get rid of my glasses. They are a part of me.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Exactly. I'm 29 and have been wearing them since I was 3. I would feel naked without them.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I've had mine since I was about 8. So 20 years! I feel naked without them, too. They are literally my eyes. 😂
by Anonymous1 year ago
I won't get surgery because I just can't imagine volunteering and paying someone to do anything to my eyeballs. They're my eyeballs. You can't close your eyes and look away while the doctor does whatever they need to do. You have to look at it. I couldn't. Glasses are fine. I get a small pack of contacts every year so that I can wear them on occasion but 98% of the time I happily wear my glasses.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Laser surgery is not a solid guarantee you won't still need glasses afterwards….

They also make us look smart 🤓

We are smart 😎

Some people have small eyes, lenses and frames can help adjust for that from for visual appeal.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Well my eyes look super small because of my stupid glasses. Because I'm shortsighted
by Anonymous1 year ago
I choose to wear glasses because surgery is expensive and i think I look better with glasses.
by Anonymous1 year ago
As someone with a script of -10.75 i HATE my glasses, they are heavy even with the thinnest glasses possible, the focal point on high scripts gets smaller so when you move about your vision is constantly going out of focus, which is vey tiring on the eyes and doesnt make walking/cycling very comfortable and nevermind stuff like swimming glasses are a pain in the ass
Lasik cant be done cuz my script is too high, only option is lens implantation
So i'll stick to my contacts cuz i cant afford the surgery and only use my glasses before bedtime and right after getting up and in case of an eye infection
Ultimately between my glasses and contacts ive spend already way more then the surgery would ever cost and im only 42

"protection for my eyes"
I saw it more as the opposite. A simple sucker punch or ball to the face can lead to pernament eye damage because of the weak glass right next to your eyeballs.
I got lasik because I was sick of my glasses fogging when wore a mask
by Anonymous1 year ago
Glasses nowadays aren't made of glass, instead they are from differents kinds of plastic which are much more impact resistant.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I've actually *been* punched in the face while wearing glasses. The polycarbonate lenses took no damage, though the frame got bent up a little. Probably kept me from getting a black eye, at the expense of my nose getting a little cut up from the nose pad on the glasses.
That's a trade I'll take.
by Anonymous1 year ago
a sucker punch can also rupture your eye after getting lasik because the lasik procedure leaves a large flap of tissue on the surface of your cornea, you should have gotten PRK if you were concerned about that. Its common knowledge in combat sports that lasik is a risk
by Anonymous1 year ago
That is only true right after the surgery. I have lasik and do martial arts. It was literally my first question, once healed there is no issue from getting hit.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Glasses are cool. I'd be sad if I didnt have them. Been part of my face for 32 years
by Anonymous1 year ago
I wear glasses because I worry that with my extremely crappy eyes I would probably mess up my sight permanently with surgery
by Anonymous1 year ago
I loathe my poor distance vision. I've always worn contacts so I can feel normal. But now that I'm older, I have to wear reading glasses or get progressive contact lenses or two different lenses or something.
They explained to me that I'll basically never feel normal again like I do with simple lenses that correct for distance.
I am genuinely happy there are people who like glasses and fully embrace their limitations. Some are very fashionable too, and that's nice.
For me? Well.. it feels like my eyes are wearing old people orthopedic shoes. Like a small, weakening animal. 😂
by Anonymous1 year ago
meh. i just don't prefer a laser in my eyeball.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I had corrective surgery because glasses didn't work after 40 years. I would much preferred to stay with the glasses. My eyes are good now but glasses were a part of me. And I look better in glasses (so do most women)
by Anonymous1 year ago
Not a fan of glasses but daily contact wearer. Probably will be forever.
I was entertaining the idea of laser surgery. Until I found out how the laser got there. Sorry, not too interested in my eyeball being cut open. Especially awake.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I've had the laser surgery. Honestly was one of the best things I've ever done, having to wear glasses since I was 10 and seeing clearer than I did with glasses, I cried after it was done, my mind was blown.
However, I was very, very anxious getting it done. I kept picturing myself running blindly around the room with my eyes flapping against my face. It kept me still in the chair.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Contacts also protect your eyes. I never cry from onions for example!
by Anonymous1 year ago
This isn't an opinion, it's a preference.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Laser surgery is dangerous and not lasting. I'm happy with my contactlenses.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Same. I just prefer how I look in them.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The amount of times things missed my glasses and got right into my eyes. Not to mention if you get into a car accident, there's a chance your airbag will break your glasses and they will go into your eyes.

PREFERENCES ARENT OPINIONS

Same... I have a -9 Rx. I'm basically blind without glasses. I don't even think that I qualify for Lasik with my Rx. Even if I did, I'm too chicken to get eye surgery, unless medically necessary, after seeing my dad go through multiple eye surgeries to correct his glaucoma and detached retinas, leading to his being blind in one eye anyway.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I think unless you're just blind laser corrective surgery isn't necessary. Like I'm a -1.5 so not wearing glasses is just an inconvenience but if I had like -9 idk, I'd definitely get the surgery because it would be life changing

After watching that death in final destination, ya I'm good...

>UV protection
It's been found that kids who grew up indoors are far more likely to wear glasses as an adult than kids who spent hours outdoors in the sun.
Your eyes actually need the suns rays in order to grow healthy and strong.

My BIL was made legally blind by a misadjusted laser. He was unable to drive a car since his late 30s.

Hope he sued

Got lasik several years ago and even though my experience was a bit rough (took a few weeks for vision to get normal)I love it. Waking up in the middle of the night to go pee and actually being able to see what's around me is an ability treasure. It has however made my eyes extremely sensitive to light so always wearing sunglasses outside - but it's really awesome I get to wear sunglasses. When I was still wearing glasses the transition lenses or anything with uv protection was absurdly expensive.
Lasik was a big QoL increase and has probably saved me a good bit over the time I've had it by avoiding expensive glasses purchased and any repairs they may need.

Sports, swimming, being able to use a SCBA for me in particular…
by Anonymous1 year ago
I wear larger frame glasses and i always joke that they're my safety goggles. I would hate not having them, they've saved me so many times.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I just simply love the look of glasses. 🤷♀️
Also I have a phobia-like feeling when thinking about eye surgery. I mean… EYE SURGERY. Hell no, thanks.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You must not have glasses that are so thick and heavy that they cause painful grooves on your nose and ears. My eyes are so bad, I'm not eligible for lasik.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Contact lenses have UV protection.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I like them too, my face looks a lot better with glasses. Or maybe I'm just used to it. But my face looks stupid without them, eyes are to small for my wide face and glasses balances it out lmao
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'd prefer not to wear glasses. My prescription is +7.5 they are so heavy that I have a permanent indent on my nose. Sucks.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I actually got laser corrective surgery early this year.
One of the big things I need to do is I have to wear sunglasses to protect my eyes for a year after the surgery.
I never was a sunglasses kind of guy, but having used them for like six months now I'm probably just going to be a sunglasses guy now.
