Different people are scared of different things. Public speaking can scare someone more than death and vice versa.

I enjoy performing arts but they aren't *easy* regardless of whether or not you're afraid. It's a challenge just to write material and present it in a way that will keep people's attention.

I put off taking a required public speaking course until the very end, and I regret it. It was actually quite tolerable, once you actually explore and unpack the aspects of phobia about public speaking.
It's not your introversion that has to be overcome, but your ego. You have to force yourself to accept the objective reality of just how low the stakes really are.
