+182 The UK has great weather, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You are so right. I always complain about UK weather until I go abroad and I'm stuck in 27 degrees with 70% humidity and my skin is sticky and my face is sweaty and my thighs are chafing and everything is chafing and it sucks. Also I have long hair and for some reason I tend to sweat most on my face/hairline and it always messes up my hair.

Those temperatures sound pretty nice to me

I'm coming home to the UK from the west coast of the USA in a couple weeks and I cannot wait for the cool rain.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Love the rain

by Anonymous 1 year ago

One of the reasons I want to move from the UK to the US is because I don't like the weather in the UK.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's so hard for me to imagine this is an unpopular opinion even though I know it's a cliche. London during the summer was amazing. I wish I could move my whole family across the pond and away from the hell that is summer in the American Midwest... only slightly less hellish than Texas summers.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'll take midwest summer over US southern summers. It's barely cracked 100 degrees once or twice in the Midwest this year, and most of the southern US (east to west) has been boiling for weeks. Midwest is far superior for all weather year round

Does it actually rain a lot in the UK or is that just a stereotype? I live in eastern europe and i honestly would want to move to a country with way more rain. Rain is soothing and calming.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I was there for almost two weeks, and it rained everyday but one.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No it doesn't, usually it's light rain and nobody uses umbrellas. it's often cloudy but it doesn't rain much, heavy rainfall is very uncommon. Last two weeks have been quite bad but that's an exception.

I agree with that my god, I live in USA Alabama and it gets like 95 F on a normal day if it got to 74 I could go on walks again

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Very unpopular and very true. I'm from Spain and it sucks down here (except for the north). I hate having nothing but sunny, hot af days for 4 months straight. It's depressing and tiring

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The UK complains about it being hot in the summer when it never even gets above 100F. I'd rather take some famous overcast and rain in exchange for not having 4-5 months where its not reasonable to be outside unless you can get in water. The only way anyone is comfortable at the beach in Texas in late July/August is if you drink until you aren't aware how sweaty and uncomfortable you are.

UK is not used to high temperatures, most people dont have AC and buildings are designed to keep hear inside. So a temperature of 30-35C ,which is average high for most places , is hell for them.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Most people don't know how to deal with high temperatures here, the building issues are not too bad since it never lasts long.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The weather is one of my favourite things about living in the UK. And I say that like I didn't look like a drowned rat walking into work today. But I'd take that over 45° and wildfires any day.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Kills the plants ? Excuse me sir, have you heard about the Amazon rainforest ? You´d love it even more in Austria then, around the same temperatures, slightly warmer, but way less rain.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I went to Austria once and it was the heaviest rain I have ever seen haha. I am prepared to try again though! (I went to a town called Hallstatt and it was beautiful)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yes we do get "Gewitter" on hot summer days, but they usually don´t last long and are predated by a sunny day :)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah and beans and toast is totally delicious and not weird at all.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Have to disagree. May felt more summer than July and as you said the torrential downpours that have happened in july are no joke. Making me thing it's autumn for a sec. Pretty inconsistent

by Anonymous 1 year ago

North-west has the best climate in the U.S. Climate so bad in the U.K. the mayor of London has all kinds of ordinances on driving fossil fuel vehicles.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You can have the exact same and even slightly better tempature without the god awful weather in like 30% of the US

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I envy your surplus of rain as an American in the Midwest.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agree fully except I can imagine frequent rain being simply inconvenient at times, even though I do love rain. Coming from Australia yeah I like the idea of the dreary North Atlantic European weather, I'd just have to make sure I take enough vitamin D. We've had a fairly cool winter in Sydney so far but yesterday it reached 23 and last night it was like 15 Celsius? I was uncomfortably warm.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

weather is in the eyes of beholder

by Anonymous 1 year ago

When people complain about the weather in the UK, they are not generally talking about the temperature. Cloudy all the time, rainy, stormy and windy. The weather is crap. Also the UK isn't tiny. The weather is different in the west coast of Scotland vs London.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That sounds like ideal weather for me. I don't live in the UK, and hot summers and cold winters are normal for me, but I'm at my best when it's just below room temperature and raining.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

15 is too cold for me, I need temperatures over 20 to be at least comfortable. Wearing a hoodie can't make a cold temperature comfortable, only tolerable

by Anonymous 1 year ago

*recalling hellish weeks with over 30° C* you are so right!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I agree actually, most of the rest of Europe is burning right now, I'm pretty sure it's barely gone above 25° in the UK this year. One of the most pleasant summers I can remember.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I went to the UK for 10 days a few years back (in mid-June), and while the people were lovely, I could never do that weather year round. It rained everyday but the last day I was there; I get seasonal depression as it is, so no thank you.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well I hope you come back! (with an umbrella)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I hope to someday! I truly loved the people! I had great trip overall, it was just truly the weather that got me.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Exteeeemely unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Gimmie my updoot then and leme feel that sweet endorphin rush

by Anonymous 1 year ago

An Englishman can't stand the heat. Is this unpopular... Hmmm 🤔

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yes! I would much prefer colder weather. We had rain here in Colorado for most of may/June and it was glorious! I miss that weather so much! The high was in the 60s and it was just awesome. Now its always so hot. Luckily we don't have a ton of humidity here so I don't have to worry about that but the heat just makes me so tired. I hate it. The only time heat is great is if you are actively swimming or at the beach. Any other time and its miserable.
