I actually like my commute to work and back, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah the 30 minutes to work and the 30 minutes back home are literally the only waking period in my life that I have that isn't 100% completely dedicated to always being on the ready to solve problems for other people. I'm alone, I put on a podcast, and nobody needs anything from me.

I've learned to make the best out of my commute. I enjoy reading or listening to music while I'm commuting, turn it into a nice break between work and home.
That being said, I could have that break anyways without a commute. I could just sit on my balcony or my backyard and read a book as a transition between home and work, or go for a 20 minute walk before and after. These sound like much better options.

If you had a shorter commute you could spend the free time having time to yourself in any way you'd prefer. I always think this is a stupid take. I've heard it many times. In the case of Coworkers I've had, I could spend nearly an hour at the gym and still get home around the same time they did. Of course lots of people live in places where cost of living or choice of schools forces them to live far away but I live in a fairly affordable town and many of these Coworkers are older and could have bought a nice house nearby dirt cheap 20-30 years ago. Rather than spending 10 hours a week driving for 30 years.

I kind of have a reverse situation of what is common. My job is in a smaller town with a cheap cost of living, but I chose to live closer to the big city because I like having more ammenities. I have a commute, but it is worth it to me.

I have about the same commute. My coworkers think I'm insane but I get to decompress before and after work. (Unless the rate occasion a maniac on the road is making me mad)

As someone who loves driving, I agree.

This makes sense. I don't mind my commute to work at all, but the ride back home often gets boring. But if I had kids and was constantly on demand, I could definitely see the appeal of relaxed driving time.
