Globo Gym actually won in the original ending. But it tested so poorly that they had to reshoot it with Average Joes winning instead. When you see the overweight Ben Stiller character at the end he references this.

They include the original ending on the dvd, IMO it doesn't work lol, audiences would have torn up the theater. The theatrical version has them essentially tie, so there's a sudden death round where the win, and then they wrap it up. The original just ends right before the tie scenario, no conclusion for the characters or anything.

Pretty sure that was just a joke feature. Otherwise it is just terrible filmmaking. Steve the Pirate would have just disappeared and never came back in the 3rd act? It would have made zero sense. I just don't think that was supposed to be taken seriously.

The appeal of Average Joe's was that they had a more body positive environment. But honestly, when most people go to the gym they just pop in their headphones and go in their own little world, so that shouldn't really matter either way for most people. Yeah, I'd have gone with Globo, even if their commercials made me self-conscious. It's better equipment, and I'm not springing for a personal trainer either way.
