I think the real thing to note is that people tend to have canned responses ready for their favorites in a variety of standard categories (colors, foods, movies, music, etc.) That they will provide without thinking deeply about it. I think that question should be given a LOT more context to make it more interesting or telling. All you need to do is phrase it like this for a 100 times better question: "what's your favorite _____ for when you ______?" Examples might include "what's your favorite music when you're feeling sad/happy?" "What's your favorite food when you're having a night in" "what's your favorite color when buying clothes for yourself?". Adding the extra layer does more than just give you that extra information; it also forces the other party to contextualize the question and actually think about the answer instead of just giving their prepared response.

That being said, my favorite number is 38. It's an even number, which I see as comforting for some reason. I find that it's large enough that you don't see it all the time every day like the numbers 1 to 10, but it's still low enough that you'll see it with some amount of regularity which is like a tiny little treat whenever it pops up

327, it all started when I got my first car which had a 327ci V8. That number has been showing up in my life ever since then. My lucky number is 712, I was born 7-12. My mother lives on Rout 712 an my father's street address is 1712. Also, the number 23. Did anybody else see that one? It's actually weird how often 23 shows up, like really weird.

I never got how people could have a favorite color or number. It just depends on the object. Purple flower is pretty, purple bike is ugly. The same with numbers, how the hell can a number be a favorite.
