+138 Intentionally using products to tan is just as weird and toxic as it is to intentionally use bleach on your skin, amirite?

Spray tan is healthier because you don't actually have to burn your skin and risk getting skin cancer later in life.

Spray tanning is also harmful in its own way + there's things like tanning beds which are also not so great

I don't understand how anyone can be of the opinion that tan skin is more desirable than pale skin and not consider themselves at least colorist, if not racist. It's one thing for each person to have a specific and unique physical preferences in a partner, but the fact that there are multiple industries specifically based on darkening skin in American culture is comical from the outside looking in. The general sentiment of the entire country is tan skin > pale skin…

Take racism out of the picture for a minute. A nice tanned face and body tends to look quite healthy and someone who is as pale as the Irish doesn't look as healthy. Obviously its not the case but that's how it looks. Also the skin looks more shiny and smooth with a good tan and muscle definition looks more defined with a nice tan also.

You can't take racism out of the picture. Inherently speaking there's no reason a tan should make you look healthier. You're being impacted by a social bias. Defined muscle definition is different, in bodybuilding competitions they spray tan their entire bodies BUT not always their faces and it's obvious bc after the competitions they wash it all off. It's to highlight their work and not to be perceived a certain way in society

There's no reason why makeup should make you look better but it inherently does. Same goes for a tan. People who have tanned naturally in the sun have a glare of health about them and it looks attractive. Obviously it's not always possible to get this tan if you live in a cold country so people use fake tan to mimic the look. I'm a long term gym goer and also pale due to my Irish heritage and when I go on holiday to a hot country and get a tan my muscle definition looks clearly more defined and also more attractive.

Not everyone can tan naturally. I spend a lot of time outdoors and grew up near the beach. I was still pale as hell and will just burn if I don't adequately protect myself.

I'm pale AF , healthier than most and definitely getting laid more than your mountian dew goblin ass , wtf?

Is it also racist to prefer pale skin? Is it fatphobic if you prefer skinnier people? Transphobic to be into cis people? Y'all need to chill lol there's always someone out there who will find you attractive

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm not talking about a roughly equal distribution of people that find different things attractive. There is an overall public stance in American culture that tan is better than pale, it's not personal preference at that point.

Maybe it's different in Canada idk. I would say that tan is still the preferred skin tone overall here, but people don't go crazy over it and won't dismiss a cute girl just because she's super pale either. Plus being tan in February would just look odd for obvious reasons

If I spend a day outside in the summer I'll tan multiple shades darker than my winter shade. I'm not upholding any beauty standard. My skin naturally gets darker. Bleaching is much different. No amount of sun or shade will achieve a bleached skin look. It's not the same.

Not even an opinion. Objectively false.

Skin bleach is toxic on your skin, spray tan isn't.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Who cares? Let people do what they wanna do

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Difference is you can go outside and tan naturally. You can't go bleach naturally as far as I know. That being said the beauty double standards is bad.

I love joking about how much Trump must spend on this stuff.

I'm naturally tan and I hate the tanning obsession. All skin colors are beautiful, so just accept whatever color your skin is.

I intentionally use the sun to tan.

Everything is "Toxic" after 2020
