+151 Professional sports teams shouldnt be moved to different cities. amirite?

Is this a US thing? Because this sound super strange, and they certainly don't move professional teams around in my part of the world (not the US)

It is most certainly a thing in the US. Because there are only a select number of spots in the leagues and because the teams are always the same (no promotion and relegation), when one market doesn't produce as much money as it used to, they move to one that will, such as Las Vegas.

It's not common at all. Every so often, an owner may sell a team and the team is relocated. Like maybe once every 10 years or so I'd guess, and just 1 team or so moves.

Let's see, the Rams have moved like five different times alone. Cleveland Rams/Chicago Cardinals->Los Angeles Rams/St. Louis Cardinals->Arizona Cardinals/St. Louis Rams->Los Angeles Rams Just since 1950, between the four major American sports leagues, there has been an average of almost one move per year.

You sure about 1 a year? I don't follow basketball, but I don't think anyone has moved for quite a while. In hockey, I believe the Jets are the latest to move in 2011. In baseball, the A's are about to move, looks like before them was the expos (now nationals) back in 04. Leaving football, which I guess you have the rams like you said, I think the raiders too? So sure if you go back like 75 years where it was maybe more common, but in recent years, like the 20-30 years, it's not a yearly thing

US has fair weather fans and some cities are more lucrative.

I don't think this is unpopular. Sports franchises shouldn't be able to extort cities in to building stadiums for them while they get most of the benefit

A true sport fan agrees. Billionaires, not so much.

I understand that teams need to make money and sometimes moving to a bigger market makes sense financially, but it still feels wrong to abandon the city that supported them from the beginning.

I agree. I don't even care much about the NFL but I'm still salty that San Diego lost the Chargers to LA

Sorry, but this is absolutely a popular opinion. I think most people will agree.

Seems like a very American thing IMO. And it's really quite bizarre.

Hey bro.. my completely interchangeable corporate led group can beat your completely interchangeable corporate group any day of the week! I've said this for years. Ruins the point of camaraderie, which is the entire point of having a distinguishable team.

Shame on those team managers for moving that team it's **never** the managers it's the **OWNERS** and with the approval of the other owners in the league they can do whatever they want with THEIR team . . . the city does not own the team teams in all major sports have been moving **for decades** *so sorry you don't like it*

Most teams move because they are financially struggling so it's either move or fold so the city loses their team anyway.
