In what world does limiting somethings functionality make it better?

Okay but we have a lot of functions that need keystrokes, that didn't necessarily exist on typewriters. If we're not allowed to repurpose keys, what do you suggest? Keep adding keys and have "enter" do nothing if "next line" isn't an available function?

In a form with many text fields separated for database entry fields TAB generally always has moved you on to the next field and Shift+ Tab reverses directions
While Enter generally indicates a paragraph mark tab will move along a sentence by words highlighting each word as it lands on it.
Much has changed
