I'm not a fan of this syrupy song but that's not what they're trying to say, they're using the word 'we' as a collective, meaning as humans we're all interconnected and by helping and supporting others, in the long term we're helping ourselves and the whole human race. The celebrity aspect of it was also to help drive donations.
