+145 i don't like when people ask the question "do you work here" if you're obviously wearing the uniform with the company's name on a shirt and a name tag. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's just an opening line. Some people are really uncomfortable with stating their demand in their first sentence, so they open with a question like this.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's better than someone assuming that you work there just because the color of your shirt is vaguely the same as the store's uniform. Bonus points if they don't accept "I don't work here" as an answer.

My toxic trait is shopping at Target in a red shirt to watch people embarrass themselves when they ask me a question and I have to tell them it's just a red shirt

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's the best. I've gone to shop after work in my work attire and people have assumed I work there and when I say no I don't they just keep going. What the heck?

I had that happen at a retail store when I was behind the front counter in uniform with a nametag. I jokingly said no and the lady looked so confused before I said yes I did.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

your example sucks no one is asking someone in an official McDonalds uniform that is standing behind the register if they work here

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You'd be surprised

by Anonymous 1 year ago

no I wouldn't

by Anonymous 1 year ago

We don't know what your uniform looks like. And we may not see your badge.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

pretty sure if you walked into a target, a walmart or somewhere where the uniform looks exactly the same across all stores and has the company name on it in medium to large sized letters or with the logo on it, you'd know that they work there.

You'd be wrong

I worked as a customer service manager at a large retailer which meant I had to wear a shirt that made it obvious I worked there, a nametag that had the company name, a red lanyard that had the name of the company printed on it with a badge attached that had the name of the company on it and I was always in an area that made it obvious I worked there. And customers constantly asked if I worked there. Seriously, like 3 times a day every day. It was maddening. I once told a customer "no, I just like the bling", and she looked at me for a second before turning to my coworker (who was dressed the same way) and asking her the same question.

i didn't realise how defensive everybody would get over this. this is like the stupidest unpopular opinion ever😭

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The same goes for when you're not wearing a store uniform and you're clearly shopping.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Are you wearing the uniform uniform or one of those special shirts? At McDonald's there's a couple folks who work there but are wearing the tropical splash shirts or something and they don't look like they belong at all

by Anonymous 1 year ago

i don't wear a name badge

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP discovered what rhetorical questions are.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

no but it's like as if they're expecting you to answer, that is the annoying thing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

How about you chill?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

no, if you disagree, then move on. simple.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nope, its just an easy way to say "hi can you help me". Never done that myself because im usually confident talking to strangers, but others arent (especially elderly people who do that, been asked if i worked at X place cuz i was at the supermarket with my work uniform during break, i didnt work there). So you are just a crybaby with this opinion and uncapable of understanding what people actually mean when they ask you that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

omg ur calling me a crybaby? really? i'm so offended🥺

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You dont need to bro. Its ok. Happens

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I ask because they could be on a break, so it gives them an easy opening to say they are on break or their shift is over. It's not that deep
