Being drunk would mean that the person abused their product. Their product is intended to be used "responsibly".

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Where is that boundary?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

According to the FDA, anymore than 1-2 drinks per day is considered heavy drinking. Consuming 5 or more alcoholic beverages in one day is considered binge drinking. And your body can filter out one drink's worth of alcohol in one hour. So anymore drinks than one per hour is abusive and would get you drunk.

Nerds

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have never had alcohol and I am unfamiliar with how alcohol works. Do you have a link to this so that I may read more into this. Thank you.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It is dependent on the person drinking. I can down a fifth in a night and be relatively alright. Drunk but not passing out or acting a fool. Some other people can't handle more than like 3 beers. It's a spectrum of tolerance. You likely can't handle very much, a few shots of average strength (80 proof, 40%) will be your limit since you don't drink. An experienced drinker can take triple shots and be fine. Not driving fine, that's never okay, but fine enough to handle themselves.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Just drink water or juice then. The point of consuming alcohol is to get an effect of any sort.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Is it, though? I like drinking beer, but I often only drink the one beer a day when I do buy some. I drink it for the taste.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Drinking one or less drinks per hour and no more than 4 in one day is giving you an effect. It's just not getting you "drunk". It's the same as any other drug. You can use it safely, or you can abuse it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wow I am just under one month free of alcohol after routinely drinking 1-2 drinks a night. I didn't consider that heavy drinking until now. I'll try to keep that in mind because it will help me continue being alcohol free. I'm not sure if I'll be sober forever but I don't want to go back to drinking every night. Not good for my body and too expensive!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Casinos never show someone "just trying to get my money back."

by Anonymous 1 year ago

and condom ads arent porns

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And they don't show poo in food ads when it's a blatant side effect

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I miss when the maxipads used to absorb real blood on tv

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wut

by Anonymous 1 year ago

disappointed.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Condom ads aren't porn but some porns could be considered condom ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They should have to read every side effect of alcohol at end of the ad like they do with prescription drugs.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"Warning may cause you to think you are way funnier and better looking then you actually are"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Side effects may include drunk dialing your ex and leaving an embarrassing voicemail that you will regret.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"Long term side effects may include seizures, liver disease, cancer, and death"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Don't forget ruining all close relationships!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And accidental children

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I like this very much!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hey your perception is your reality

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's wild cigarettes have to have warnings and in some places graphic pictures but alcohol gets a pass like it's somehow not just as dangerous if not more.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cigarettes are way more dangerous if you consider that they lead to multiple cancers and significantly increase risk of heart attack and stroke - the #1and #3 cause of death in the US.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cigarettes don't cause violent outbursts.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Unless you're a heavy smoker going cold Turkey….

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've never seen someone kill a whole family because they were smoking and driving lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I bet that has happened before

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That would take like 20 minutes

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Being drunk isn't a side effect.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Obviously not, but vomiting, headaches, liver damage, etc. are.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

it's illegal to show people actually drinking in ads..

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Would it be legal to show someone freaking out on meth and then be like "Wouldn't you rather have a Bud Light?"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Have you tried applying to Anheiser-Busch?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

*Some coked out dude empties his life savings to buy a used boat.* "I should've just had a Bud Light."

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No, it's not. Not even in the United States. Google is your friend, what your grandmother told you when you were 7 is not.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

it's a super common misconception

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Where?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They also aren't allowed to show them actually drinking the alcohol in ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They also aren't allowed to show the alcohol going into their mouths in ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They also aren't allowed to show consuming fluid in ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They *just* said that

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's perfectly legal in the Netherlands. The internet isn't US exclusive...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

the question was why people aren't drunk in alcohol ads not why they are allowed..implying that op is referring to a country where it isn't legal or shown

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They're seperate things, though. Even in places that do allow drinking in advertising, I don't think I've ever seen anyone acting properly drunk.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No, OP is talking about people *being drunk* in ads, which for obvious reasons is exceedingly rare everywhere. It does *not* imply that it is somewhere where they are not allowed to show someone *drinking*. These are not the same at all. For example, I'd struggle to find a European ad for alcohol showing someone drunk, but plenty of examples where they show them drinking.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I know a lot of Croatian beer commercials where they are acting more than a bit tipsy and doing some drunken antics. Not completely wasted, of course.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You are stupider than you think.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Your countries laws don't apply everywhere.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's also not illegal in the US

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Didn't know laws of certain countries suddenly applied to the entire world.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Just like they don't show obese people eating Micky Ds

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Not every drunk person is a slurring, unbalanced disaster. It's quite easy to assume many of the people partying in various ads are somewhat sauced

by Anonymous 1 year ago

To that, I get the impression that a lot of people on here have only been around really awful drunks and/or party/"frat"/club style settings. Like damn. Have they never just sat around on a deck sippin' beers with some good friends?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Like how McDonald ads don't show fat obese bastards screaming at workers for a free meal, because "mAh SuN'S FrIeS R 2 cold!!"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well they say drink responsibly. So uhhh that's the whole point

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Razor companies only show women shaving hairless legs. Vacuum ads vacuum fake dirt (confetti or just crumbs, clean hair, but no real dust or dirt)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

My vacuum better suck up that confetti, crumbs, and hair, even if it's all fake.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Toilets are advertised by how many billiard balls you can flush at a time (not necessarily on tv, but in stores).

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I still find it weird vices are allowed to be advertised on TV. Everyone knows tobacco/alcohol/gambling is a thing. Maybe we don't need to show potentially life destroying activities on TV?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Get rid of ads for soda and snacks too. Especially on children's shows.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe it's what I let my kids watch but I don't think I've seen a single ad on kids shows that wasn't for a toy or another show. Which countries still show ads for soda and snacks?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

North America...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

even so, you don't see a ton of food ads on streaming platforms. I could see this largely being a broadcast TV thing

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is a result of the liberalization of society - people pushed back against things like the temperance movement, or the prohibitionist movement.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's not an ad for tobacco/alcohol broadly, it's an ad for that specific product. That's like saying everyone knows food is a thing, so why do restaurants advertise? There's clear differences between different products.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Capitalism, baby!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

why not? adults can make their own decisions

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Because you are supposed to enjoy their product, not get drunk on their product. ( I know, I know...)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You know that not everyone who drinks alcohol is drunk out of their mind, right?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Alcohol companies try to tie being rich, famous, and happy with their products. And yet, in reality it causes more damage and suffering than any of those perceived benefits.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

*actress makes duck face, tumbles down stairs and throws up* (Positive voice) "Coors, the banquet of beers"

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe show the morning after with sound effects

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sure they do. I've seen some, although in most of them the protagonists were *acting* drunk.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

We should make laws forcing them to. Ruin your life now with alcohol!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There was success adding diseased lungs, and images depicting cancerous side-effects of smoking on ciggarette cartons. It seems the same could be achieved with alcohol products.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And McDonald's never shows a fat person in their ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Because drunk people are an indictment of alcohol consumption. Not a good way to sell alcohol.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

where i live it's illegal to advertise alcohol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

May I ask which country is that? Is it a dry country?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Not the person you asked: But here in Norway alcohol ads have been illegal since 1989. Ads promoting tobacco or gambling are also illegal.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They don't show how you always get your name misspelled at Starbucks in Starbucks ads

by Anonymous 1 year ago

For the same reason soda companies never show a person with cavities, gambling sites never show people getting their stuff repo'd and pain killer manufacturers never show people popping an aneurysm. People rather believe in - and pay for - fairytales.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Funeral director adverts never show a dead guy Chocolate companies never show fat people 🤷‍♂️

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There's no way they actually drink alcohol for each take in the ad.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Could you imagine what a Buckfast advert would look like if it showed their regular customers.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've applied for the job but no luck yet.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Because that's not the intended use of their product.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Anti drinking groups should just take clips from code blue and then advertise the fines/trouble the people got in.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'd assume they wouldn't want to even if they could.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They also don't show anyone actually drinking. At least in the US

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You also never see a guy sitting alone in his living room watching TV with a twelve pack.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think in the US, it's illegal to show someone drinking in alcohol commercials.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Similarly, fast food companies never show obese people, gambling companies never show people broke and desperate and insurance companies never show people being hung out to dry by a technicality.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Getting drunk is more fun than being drunk.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They never show the guy beating his wife either

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They are always quite happy though

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It depends on the country's laws, but in Canada you can't advertise alcohol by having people drink it. Showing them hold it, clink glasses, and generally have a good time right beside alcohol is fine though.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They never show anyone even drinking real alcohol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Neither do car commercials.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They are all drunk, it is just the drunk persons perspective which is also why they are all good looking

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"Please drink responsibly"

by Anonymous 1 year ago
