You can definitely tell when real vanilla bean is used in ice cream, it leaves black specks from the vanilla beans.

I know, what I meant was the overall colour is still white, not like how chocolate turns everything brown and saffron turns everything yellow

You don't need very much so the brown colour of vanilla extract is diluted by the other ingredients.
