Nothing ever happenes in Ted Lasso. Ever, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
So you're saying that there *are* conflicts and resolutions, aka things happening
by Anonymous1 year ago
No, I am saying there is the attempt at presenting conflicts, the intention is there, but through the execution, they remain an attempt. I personally can't call those situations conflicts.

Healing. Healing is happening.
by Anonymous1 year ago
That's an interesting take, I didn't look at it like that. So you're saying that the whole point of the show is to present the healing journey and the "Action" (for lack of a better word) is not the point.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's kind of a counter to all the dark action drama out there.
I found the first season endearing, and I can understand why people might want exactly this kind of "nothing happens" TV.
I agree it lost it's interest to a more general audience during the second season. I do kind of miss my "comfort sitcoms" - can't find much to scratch the same itch that Malcomb or Raising Hope used to.

Raising Hope is great. Have you seen Sprung?
by Anonymous1 year ago
I am watching it - it's not bad, just not great like what I'm missing.
Martha Plimpton is always great.
by Anonymous1 year ago
She is great, the character of her son is a real gem.
I'm in camp Dillahunt
"Well that's one in a row for you, Wild Bill."

It's a show about mental health bro…

wholesome moustache guy make people happy
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah me too but it's not enough to keep me invested. It's just a string of sometimes wholesome moments but there is no contrast to them so it takes from their value for me
by Anonymous1 year ago
it's just a feel good show to watch and not have to get super emotionally invested in. there's enough drama everywhere else, sometimes you just want to tune it out and watch a feel good show for the warm and fuzzies and ted lasso nails it for that.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I get that but for me, the warm and fuzziness would weigh more if there were some higher stakes once in a while.

Not every story is plot based. Many are based on character development. Stephen King is a mater of this genre - Stand By Me, Apt Pupil, The Long Walk. It's not for everyone. But Ted Lasso executes it beautifully. Sounds like you're just more into the standard plot based template. That's a shame. So much of the good stuff of life is in character development based plots.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I would disagree because for me an excellent example of character development driven shows is "the Wire" I think they achieved that beautifully and still managed to make it interesting. I don't feel like the characters in Ted Lasso really change at all, and when they do it makes no sense like the time they made Dani Rojas mean for a bit....made no sense to me why on earth would he behave like that.
by Anonymous1 year ago
But isn't that a good thing? People should be resolving conflicts as quickly as they can.
I understand it doesn't make for a lot of drama, but Ted Lasso is a feel good show with the backdrop of the most popular sport in the world.

Damn, it really does reflect real life. Hit 35, have your house, stable job and kids but nothing really happens. No wonder so many people live through their kids.

First season funny, everything else cringe
by Anonymous1 year ago
I agree Season 2 went so so so downhill for the show, I was surprised when people were surprised Season 3 sucked because it felt exactly on par as the season before

One thing happens, it sanitizes known pos Sudeikis' image
by Anonymous1 year ago
Really? What is he like, he always seems so sunny but I don't know anything about him personally to be honest.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This is one of those shows where it was good enough to finish, but not good enough to ever think about or talk about or recommend to anyone. I enjoyed it, but it was just because it was a nice feel good show to watch with my wife not because it's got a compelling story to tell.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I watched two episodes waiting for something to happen. My father in law was dying laughing at nothing. I was so confused.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yeah it seems to be one of those things like licorice, you either love it or hate it :)))) I like the sentiment but yeah....
by Anonymous1 year ago
Agree. It's kind of a cringe show.

That actor went from trafficking coke across the border to being a do nothing soccer coach fr fr

The first season was great. Second season lacked direction and I found it mediocre at best. If they make a third, I won't be there.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I can think of 4 characters that did complete character arcs over several seasons. Think of the journey of those people. That is stuff happening. It may not be what you enjoy but it is unlike most TV these days so it's a breath of fresh air.

I think General Hospital may be what you're looking for. It's a character based show.
