So you are spectating a character from an outside perspective and can not see exactly as they see… hence making it actually a 3rd person game, not 1st person…

But I would counter with, you are still controlling the actions, not mearly watching as a spector. You ARE the character, not a spector just have your vision set behind and above you.

In that case, by technicality all games are 2nd person perspective (inserting yourself - ex. choose your own adventure), because the character is YOU, you control all the movements and actions. And while there are pre-planned events, how you accomplish tasks is all up to YOU. And a game is called 1st/3rd person not because of who you possess, but on the perspective you are viewing the character from, it's eyes or a 3rd party (spectator) view
