Minimalism is boring and uncreative, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Some of us don't spend enough time in our houses to care. My house is very "uncreative" as you'd put it. It's got nice fixtures and applicants and flooring and all that but I haven't really personalized it much. I don't have pictures on the wall, I don't have colorful tchotchkes strewn around or on display, I just don't. I only really sleep and store my stuff there, but I prefer being outside doing things.

It's meant to be relaxing and not distracting but I agree with you, it's boring

It's because we don't like how busy other homes are. We want simple designs that are easy to clean and are soothing. Everyone tries to make their life complicated. I think minimalism is a reaction to that so we can relax and focus on what really matters.
A nice minimalist design can take plenty of time and effort. It's not about time.

Personally I'd love to make my future house my own canvas, make every room a different style and use bright colors ♡

I feel like the more stuff i own the more i have to worry about something.Everything requires some sort of maintenance, even if minimal.A mostly empty room is just fine,i don't like extra responsibility.

Your mind will be influenced by your surroundings, that's why minimalism exists. It's easier to focus with less visual stimuli.
Minimalism can still have art, just not peppered everywhere.
It can also without problem have individuality (color choice, for example).
Passion, I'm not sure. Depends on what one means by it.

I'm a minimalist, my wife is not.
It actually causes me stress all the stuff she wants to put everywhere. I hate it. For some people (myself), anything other than minimalism feels cluttered.

As someone who grew up with parents who were clutterers and liked everything to look and be very busy, I enjoy the simplicity and cleanliness of minimalism. I don't want to have to take in too many details and feel my space crowded at home. I like wide, open, sparse areas.

I'm working on this currently at home, redoing all artwork and paint to match my maximalist soul. I want people to wonder when they come inside and feel like it's warm and inviting.

I think we went through a long period where people were constantly selling and buying homes, and the idea of personalizing a non permanent residence was scary. So we had white, then beige, then grey everything. (I really hope the grey trend ends soon. Worst color.)
Nowadays, people are holding onto their homes more, and we should see some more personalization.

That's the point. People want to live in a place where their minds aren't distracted with a lot of details in their surrounding. You know, to relax brain or something like that.

I like tidiness but yeah, houses that look empty just aren't real homes.

I would rather have no decoration than tacky decoration.

Minimalism feels like a cope for people who cant afford the decent furniture and decor they actually want.
